Not sure what the answer is for this situation. Silver Lake wins twice but does not run up the score when quite easily could have. 3-0 win over Westsound 94 Megson and 4-0 win over Eugene Metro this with a 1-4 loss to ESA. Because Bainbridge Force scored a single goal more in a 5-1 win Silver Lake does not play in the semis of the Evergreen. I understand that if Silver Lake had scored another goal of prevented that fourth goal against ESA they would be playing tomorrow, though I am not sure what it proves to score as many goals as you can against lesser competition only to move on to a semi final that you might have difficulty winning. The point was made in both of SIlver Lakes wins who the better team was. Would scoring an additional goal or two proved anything except to further discourage the other team?
Here are the rules copied form the Evergreen Tournament :
Scoring for Preliminaries: The team(s) with the highest point totals will advance to the quarter or semi finals. Points will be awarded as follows:
1. Win = 6 points
2. Draw = 3 points
Loss = 0 points
One point for each goal up to a maximum of 3
One point for a shutout
Minus one point for each red card issued to a player or coach.
Note: In the case of a "Bye" because of no show or cancellation, a score of 1-0 (8 points) will be awarded to the winning team. (The Tournament Committee will make every effort to try to find a replacement team when a cancellation such as this occurs.)
Tie Breaking:1. Head to head competition
2.
Least number of goals scored against 3. Difference between goals scored for and goals scored against (limit of 3 goals for per game)4. Most number of wins
5. Least number of loses
6. Coin toss or Penalty Kick (Tournament Directors discretion)
When selecting more than one team using the tie breaking rules, the tie breaking rules will be re-applied from the beginning after each team is selected.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is not about scoring because the most any team can receive is 3 points max for goals scored. So if Silverlake scored 10 goals against some team, they would of still only received 3 points.
Silverlake's problem was allowing ESA to score 4. It has nothing to do with scoring goals, but rather stopping goals. Silverlake allowed 4 goals and Bainbridge allowed 2.
