Good points sunshinegirls. I also agree that it's highly unlikely a 10 year old intentionally tries to hurt another player, but some things need to be carded for the girls to learn what is dangerous to the other players and can't be tolerated. And for the record to others out there, I never said the Westside Metros defender intentionally tried to hurt the WPFC player (and I'm sure she had nothing of the sort in mind), but she did intentionally reach out and grab the arm of the WPFC forward from behind and drag her to the ground to prevent a sure goal on a breakaway. She was just doing whatever she could at that point to make the stop. This is exactly why the girl needed to be carded to impress upon her at this young age exactly how serious this sort of thing is. If it's let go without being carded, then the player will just see it as any other foul that is called in a game. If this sort of thing doesn't draw a yellow, then exactly what would? And, reaching out and grabbing someone's arm and dragging him or her down to the ground is not a case of mistakenly kicking someone in the leg, accidentally tripping someone, or anything of the sort. Just trying to keep apples and oranges straight here for you all. Guess you just had to be there. That's all...enough said. If people don't get understand the point trying to be made, then so be it.[/quote]
Sorry so long to reply. I agree with you GD. Sometimes a card is appropriate, even at this age. They still need to learn.
