Dragon hear it gonna be Reign vs FC Portland in one semi and

NWN Red vs Ireland in da other (if they were in seperate brackets would be Red and Ireland in da final)

Still will pull for both Wa teams ta go to finals, or else it could be an "All Oregon Final"

Lots of other Great action too, still no word on the Surf Cup though, if the teams can keep the score under 5-0 they should consider dat a "small victory" ;)

Hope there LOTS OF NOMINATIONS FOR POTW AGAIN!!!!!

We got to see our friends on Crossfire Van de Mark.  Great team, great parents.

What a fun weekend. Okay... so not lots of goals on our teams part but we ended on a positive and the girls had fun.
All that matters!

Heat Miser must be happy though, (darn those duck parents), Would love ta see them play Porter gals

Heard there was a "bad call" in da semi finals on a goal taken back and also a Yellow card given out! :o   Anyone care ta comment on that?

are you referring to the one during the XFire/Xplosion game ? Or one of the other bad calls during a different XFire game ?

Soup- Xplosion didn't play Crossfire.. The bad call that you must be reffering to for the xplosion game was or should have been during the Reign game where a reign player picked up the ball in the box and then dropped it. There was no call by the ref's... Reign coach later apologized to Xplosion...

The yellow card I beleive was shown to the NWN coach for arguing with the ref. during the Ireland match.. over what I don't know.

Looks like D called this one tho... Ireland is a great little team, too bad they are from the wrong side of the river! ;)

ah, you are correct, it was Reign vs Xplosion where the ball was dropped. I was trying to watch the Xplosion and the Courage game at the same time for awhile. So may games to see, so many 'unusual' calls.

I have a question; a player has a breakaway, is in the box with the ball with a defender on their back. The players both go down, in the box mind you. The ref calls an indirect, out of the box kick saying the forward tripped, lost control of the ball and the defender tripped over the forward. So, was it a foul ? If not why an indirect ? If so why not an in the box resulting in a PK ?

Hmmm, difficult to say.  Only PK for one of the 9 enunciated Direct Kick offenses, if occurs in box.  Interfering with an obvious goal scoring opportunity can be a red card and PK.  If a foul occurs in the box, but not one of the 9 deadly sins, ref can call indirect.

What you are really saying is you think it was intentional and should have been a PK.  Judgment call I suppose.

DIRECT FREE KICKS (whistle & signal with arm extended):

a. A direct free kick is awarded for kicking, tripping, jumping at/on,
charging at, striking, holding, pushing, or doing anything else malicious to an opponent. Handballs (ball touching an extended arm from the
shoulder downward) is also direct.

this player had already scored once from a breakaway. 4 of the 9 offenses were apparent at the 6 yard line. Whether it was intentional or not, it prevented the player from at least making a move that could have scored. I have never seen anything but a PK given in this circumstance, ever, in 16 years of being in youth soccer. Yes it was a judgment call I guess. It was just interesting from a Crossfire ref at a Crossfire game at the Crossfire tournament.

First, you already know everything hinges on "in the opinion of the referee" (ITOOTR).  Second, since referee's can't read minds, they go by observation of actions and their results -- not the players "intention."

In the scenario you describe, if ITOOTR, the forward tripped through his carelessness, preventing the defender from playing the ball fairly, then the correct call is Dangerous Play.  Restart: IFK for defending team.

If (ITOOTR) the action of the forward was to trip the defender, then the restart is DFK for defending team.

A PK would have been the correct restart if the defender tripped the forward (in the penalty area).

thank you for clarifying, you reiterated what I suspected.

BTW the forward with the ball was well ahead of the defender and was drawing back to shoot. It would have been extremely difficult for the forward to trip someone behind them while running full out. The foul was blatant, and obvious, ITOO all watching.

Referees
« Reply #27 on: July 31, 2006, 04:55:48 PM »

In my experience, often the least experienced referees are assigned to the U11 and U10 games.  These inexperienced refs are not very confident yet, so they sometimes go the whole match without calling much of anything, on either team.  If you don't make any call, the call you made cannot be the wrong call.  (Even though a non-call was still wrong).  The very experienced refs, on the other hand, may think that refereeing little kids is beneath them, and show a bit of a nonchalant attitude.

Sounds to me like this was a "professional foul;"  In which case, the proper call would have been a PK and a red card for the defender.

if the ref had made no call, that would have been different. And it was apparent she was not an inexperienced ref, neither in age, nor in rules knowledge. Her initial explanation was that the forward tripped, and lost the ball causing the defender to trip. If so, why call any foul ? And why call for an indirect ? What she was saying was there was a foul, but it was inadvertant. But the forward had the ball, running at full steam on the 6 yard line. Definitely in a scoring position and definitely in the act of shooting. So inadvertant or not, the defender fouled the forward in the box in the act of shooting. Maybe a red card was not called for, but a PK definitely was. And we are not a U-10, U-11 or even a U-12 team.

But as were ahead 1-0 of a Crossfire team, at the Crossfire tournament,,,,,well, it's easy to figure out the rest.
