Topic: Are CPs' dd not happy about the position she is playing? (Read 2230 times)

I know a player who plays most if not all the game, yet she is sort of unhappy because she doesn't rotate. She plays the same position evey game and I believe she is going to burn out even tough she is the best player on this team at this position. She is awesome at her position, but she wants to play other positions now, and she wants to play less. Unbelievable, i couldn't believe she was telling me this. Any insight from CPs on how to rectify this situation-my advice would go talk to the coach, however the coach did tell this team, (s)he would rotate the players, and it really hasn't happened a lot-is this why a lot of our dd quit before even trying out for odp's? She is the most awesome player, yet she is tired of (a) playing the whole game and (b) of being stuck at a particular position. I'm just happy this player is not my dd. My dd has the other problem- not getting enough playing time. Please CPs share your helpful insights as well as your horror stories..

Halloween is coming up.

If this Dragonkids problem then Dragon go up to coach and say;
"Just kinda wanted to let you know that my DD would like to play other positions, even if it means less playing time, thank you"
If that work, Great. If not work then like you say, Oct 31 right around corner, would get on phone and start calling. Would rather have DD play on team where she happy (even if lower level), then have her not happy. As far as you DD, Dragon give you advice....see example #1. :mrgreen:

My DD has this problem. She has been playing in the same position for most of the season. She has asked the coach to play another postion, but has been told, no.

I encourage her to give all she can at practice and keep talking to the coach about getting a chance to play in another position.

She is happy on the team she is with, so moving is not an option.

Hopefully with hard work and a passion for this game she will get her chance.

My older DD had this problem (?) once. She asked coach to move her from defender to forward. He said no.
Then along comes a game where they were winning by 6 or 7 goals and coach moved everyone around. "I" love the fact that she is an "all around position player" That way if someone in one position gets hurt, she can fill in anywhere, and doesn't get real bored playing one spot all the time. There will come a time that coach will move her. All she can do is do her best and play with HEART and FIRE

U11 should be for development. It is nice to have a powerhouse team but even better if kids learn diff. positions and responsibilities. Coaches should move kids around as they can to find their "nitch".

A good starting point at the beginning of the season is to ask the child where they would like to play and where they feel they are best at.

Lots of coaches seem to want to win at all costs and will keep the player in only one spot all season. :cry:

I have been around the block and have seen that some players are never happy about what position they play in.

If, she truely wants to be better at other positions then she needs to show that she can be a versatile player. Not all players have that ability.

Every year at U11 there are players, who came from rec, who wants to be a forward. Remember, the team only has 2-3 forwards! Not every can play it. I think it's great when a player takes pride as a defender!

Maybe she needs to join a team that is called the "Cherry Pickers" if you get my drift!

Big Mac prefers defense. She says she feels more comfortable there. Coach only plays her at mid and forward now.... :lol: :lol: :lol: Oh well! She loves the game and that's all that matters! ~

My DD has never played the position she does now. It was a difficult transition for me to see her in a new spot on the field but she loves it and that's all that matters.

I get to see her get stronger each week and show me things I didn't know she was capable of (I coached her before). I'm so glad that she can contribute to the team by trying something new this season.

When she decided to play this level, I told her that she would need to 1. strengthen and use her left foot and 2. play in the position her coach felt she fit best. Who knows, next year she may fit better elsewhere, but she understands that and will always give her best no matter where she is on the field.

Now I don't feel so bad. I thought my DD's team was the only one not moving kids around. Last year my DD was one of the highest scoring players on her team, now she has a hard time scoring when she is making sure her goalie doesn't have to touch the ball. Unfortunately, the coach says they can't afford to move her because no-one does the job as well as she does. Doesn't that mean they need to develop other players in that position? Oh well, like they say, "Forwards sell tickets, but defense wins championships!!"

No Tink, you are not weird, you are awesome. Often times when I read things that parents post regarding their kids, I wonder what their kids actually think....... and if the parents asked them what they think..........
Glad you spoke up.
On our team.......... the ONLY ones who complain about positions are the parents. The kid plays defense and the parent wants them up front scoring goals. You ask the kid if they want to move and they say NO... I love it here.

:shock: My DD was moved back into the Def. At first she had a hard time not keeping her position and groused about playing back. But half way through the summer she guest played for a friends team and ran down two break aways while playing mid. Suddenly Def seems like a fun place. She get to use her speed and her skill, now automatically goes to the back and says she loves it. Even when asked to play up she tends to float back much to the coaches shagrin.

Defense is awesome!! Both my girls love to play "D".
My oldest, who plays U13~ shares pretty much equal time at the forward and right fullback positions. The nice thing for her, is she never comes off the field. Her coach has her playing an attacking defense as well and she's taken it up the field 4 times this year from the right fullback position to SCORE!! I love to watch my girls at any position they play...learning new positions help make better all-around soccer players! Just my 2cents...not sure if my girls feel the same way as I do or not! Like Miss America said...it would be interesting to hear from the kids about this subject.

My son plays defense and loves it, played it for years and wouldn't play anything else.

My DD thinks defense is something that just gets in her way when she tries to score. :cry:

Are coach says you want a State championship trophy I will make you one. We are going to learn the game now and develope and latter couple years we win state. They are learning very fast watch out could be this year. Cheese you are so right they should play all positions on the field learn them all develpoment is key at U 11
