Oregon U12 Girls CQT Predictions
« on: August 01, 2006, 08:24:38 PM »

I thought I would take a shot at predicting the top three finishers in each of the eight brackets in this weekends Oregon CQT.   There are 14 teams between Oregon and Vancouver/Camas that did not compete in Oregon U11 last year.  In other words, I know most of these teams, but I haven't seen everyone so be prepared for a few surprises.

Bracket 1

1.  Bend Storm
2.  Salmon Creek Nemesis
3.  Sherwood Sting

I believe Salmon Creek lost to Bend only 2-1 at the Cascade Cup, so they could surprise the state semi-finalist.

Bracket 2

1.  SSC Ireland
2.  Canby Mystics
3.  Thelo Gremio

LOSC Knockouts, or THUSC might squeeze into the three spot with some inspired play.

Bracket 3

1.  ESUFC Sunderland
2.  CFC Atletica
3.  Roseburg Revolution

If there was ever a potential upset in the making its CFC Atletica taking the top spot from Sunderland. I hear they are much improved from last year, and Sunderland is having a tough time as expected finding the net.  A lot to play for, the second place team drops into Timbers Red's bracket the following weekend.  In other words, OUCH.

Bracket 4

1.  OUSA Ginga
2.  MYSA Fusion
3.  Eugene Metro FC Phoenix

I hear Ginga is much improved from last year.  MYSA should hold down the two hole without too much trouble.  Eugene Metro is a new club that I know nothing about. There should be enough good soccer players in Eugene to make this team decent.  If not, then Hillsboro Crossfire.

Bracket 5

1.  FC Will Possesion---in my estimation Ireland's number one threat.
2.  FC Portland Aqua
3.  SSC Eire

SSC Eire is much improved over last year.  Second might be a stretch, but don't be surprised if they do.

Bracket 6

1.  CPSC Timbers Red--easily
2.  WUSC Rapids
3.  OSA Sabura

ESUFC Dundee could surprise either WUSC or OSA, but I doubt it.  WUSC and OSA tied at the Nike Cup.  A lot to play for, 3rd place team gets Ireland the following weekend.

Bracket 7

1.  FC Portland Marine
2.  WSM Energy
3.  BSC Black Magic

This is a tough call.  I would have gone with Westside about a month ago, but FC Portland Marine has been playing tougher competition over the course of the last month.  I will take Marine by a goal, but don't be surprised if the game ends in a 0-0 tie.  Westside plays pretty tough defense.  If OYSA  made one mistake in seeding the brackets it was this one.  Both teams deserve to have one seeds, and probably both belong in Premier Gold.

Bracket 8

1.  FCV Xplosion
2.  CPSC Timbers Blue
3.  LOSC Dynamite
3.  RVSC Storm

A little bit of a cop out on this one.  Easily the most interesting bracket.  Both RVSC and LOSC played Gold last year.  Timbers Blue has been working hard to get ready by playing more friendlies than you can shake a stick at.  I am taking Xplosion to take the one hole.  They seem to be a pretty consistant bunch.  LOSC looks to have played well at Crossfire last weekend, but they played Silver.  RVSC won Silver at Nike Cup two weekends ago.  Timbers Blue is organized, they play pretty physical,  they have a pretty good keeper plus they have played the best the Portland/Vancouver area has to offer.  It could make all the difference, especially since in qualifying they play 20 minute halves.  Anything can happen.

Let the Blah, Blah, Blah begin.

Heat-Man
Youe brackets look pretty good. I won't be predicting because I don't want to give anyone locker room motivation.

After reading over my piece, I think I should better clarify my comment in Bracket 5 about FC Will Possession.  What I should have said was they are probably Ireland's biggest threat in the State of Oregon.  I came away pretty impressed with them after Ireland played them in the semi's at Nike Cup.   I think everyone knows Timbers Red will be a very tough team to beat.

No offense.  I was banging away at the keys at the same time.  I didn't want the Timbers Red contingent to feel slighted.

As to who is number one?  Hard to say.  Ireland wasn't at full strength when they played the friendly.  I think it is fair to say both teams are very good.

Who knows, maybe they will meet at Chinook Cup.

No thanks.  There is only one true Dragon.  Although, I'll have to admit "Duckville Dragon" does have a nice ring.
