too true. Think Parents care WAY too much bout rankings...........
Did your DD team learn?
Did they have fun?
Does your DD still love the beautiful game?
These questions my friends, are all that matters
Great points Dragon, and I would like to add something for some of you CP's to think about along these same lines. First off, the following IS NOT associated with the idea of having guest players from other clubs, but is strictly related to the situation where players within the same club (and who normally play up a year) end up guest playing down on a team that is their own age group (i.e. a U-11 player that normally plays up on the U-12 team but is playing on their own club’s age appropriate U-11 team for a given game and/or tournament).
Some CP's (probably on the losing end of the stick) think those clubs are doing this “just” to get wins, get tournament hardware, promote their club, etc. Did you ever stop to think there might be more to it as well? Did you ever take the time to realize that if a player who normally plays up doesn’t have anything going on in a given weekend, that it's probably very good for development purposes for that player to go ahead and play down with the other team of their normal age group for a couple reasons? First it gives them more touches and game experience, but it also gives them a chance to get to know the other girls (on and off the field) they will probably be playing with in the years to come when they drop back down to their own age group. Is it good for the club too? Well, yeah maybe. But, CPs should be more worried about whether it’s also good for the kids, and I think the answer is a definite YES as long as playing time is handled appropriately.
So, when you see a team/club that is doing this, maybe don't be so quick to look at it as them having an advantage due to the players playing down with that team for that tournament. Yet, maybe instead it should be looked at as a huge disadvantage for that team/club in more general terms because that lower team normally doesn't get to have that obviously very talented player on their team ALL THE TIME because she's typically playing up within the same club. I just wanted to point out one other way to look at the situation. I think it's a win / win situation in the long run for the player and club. So, don’t be the person / team that gets beat and uses this as an excuse for not advancing in a tournament. Instead, give the other team some credit for the talent they have and recognize that you simply did not have what it took to advance that particular weekend and the other team is doing what’s best for the development of their players.
PS…In case you’re wondering Mufasa, the WPFC U-11 Black team did not have any guest players…just our own 12 for both Beaverton and Blastoff. Yeah BABY!!!! This post is talking in general terms, not situation specific.
