I agree with that. Many kids that are playing up.. would like an opportunity to play at their age. Possibly to see if that is where they might like to play.

Atleast in our case thats what it was for.

Well . . . I agree in theory with what is said, but I think it sort of dodges the real question behind guest players. How often do you see the coach ask the WEAKEST player on the other team to come and guest play? How about, almost never.  Even when teams draw from their B team, they tend to want the strongest B team players because obviously we go to tournaments to try for success.  When they ask a play-up to guest play, I doubt that the coach is considering if the girl wants experience at her own age.

I totally agree with GD that you cannot blame a loss on 1-2 guest players, but if the players made no impact, they would not be asked. I have had the experience of sending teams to a tournament that was specifically chosen because it is their level of play and find myself facing a B team with multiple A team players.

All my kids have been guest players, both within their clubs and other teams, and they love it.  It's a winning situation for them.  All of them have done it this summer, in fact. But I can also say that they weren't asked because they were weak players, and I'm not convinced that it was the best for the other children on the team.  I have really mixed emotions about this.

Depending on the tournament and the team requesting guest players we might very well send some of the players who do not get as much time to play.

Victory--that's great if you do that!  And maybe more teams do that now, but it's just been my experience that guest players are asked for the purpose of strengthening a team, not necessarily for the benefit of the player, although there are benefits.  But . . . my kids have all played in big clubs, so maybe that's more common there.  Good for you!

This isn't really a direct response to your post ShelbyJ, just sort of taking the baton from where you left off.  The following are my naive observations / opinions, as I am just another stupid U-11 CP learning the ropes.

I think we can all agree that if a club goes outside their own club to get a guest player, they are going to want someone decent.  Who wouldn't?  However, clubs that have guest players within their own club (play ups / downs), I think it usually has more to do with player development than anything else.  It's not just for the development of the guest player.  It can help the other girls on say a U-11 team by watching and playing with a girl that normally plays up with the U-12s who happens to be guesting with the U-11s on a given weekend.  Or, often times a good B-team or C-team player guest plays with the A-team just to "get a look" and get some perspective, experience, etc.  :D  But, of course you'll never hear the other teams in a tournament complaining about that, will you?     LOL.  I say if a girl is playing in her own club and she is “age appropriate” for the team she’s playing with at that time….then the rest of the people that don’t like it need to simply go find another ridiculous issue to protest.  Maybe go join the fight for “Gay Marriages” or something….yes Dragon, I think there certainly would be something wrong with that.

I can see using guest players if a team is missing players(many parents don't share their vacation plans until AFTER the tourney is set and paid for).  But to bring in guest players just for extra fire power for the win simply makes it look like the coach has no faith in his/her team.

Not touchin' the gay marriage thing  ;)

i don't mind guest players in tournaments as long as playing time is handled right.

i'd be interested in knowing for sure who in the fwu blast off played with guest players? premier 95 black played with just their regular roster. nwn red looked like they only played with their regulars too but i don't know. hearsay is that westsound had a couple of guest players.

I'll say this...I heard a team that was 3rd in their bracket was protesting another team that was headed to the finals, and the protest was related to a guest player from within the same club who was age appropriate.
