Question about how standings work for District 3
« on: October 24, 2005, 12:01:13 PM »

Hi all - I just have a general question.  My nieces play for a U14 team in D3.  They are currently in a tie for second place in their division - but are showing as third on the website, even though head to head - they have already beaten the team they are tied with in points.

My sister (team manager) contacted D3 to see why they don't show as the second place team - and they said that head to head doesn't count - they base it all on Goals For first and then Goals Against - that to them - defense doesn't mean nearly as much as the ability to score goals!!

Now - I know the season isn't over - and these things have a way of working themselves out.. but still - I was shocked to hear their opinion that defense doesn't count - they don't care -and that they don't take head to head into consideration - since it seems all tournament play uses head to head as the first tie breaker.

Just wondered what others thought of this mentality - seems a bit off to me.  No wonder so many kids think they have to play forward and score goals to be noticed!!!  ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Head to head is the most important tiebreaker and should always be 1st...simple as that. Whoever they talked to, I'm guessing didn't understand the question because not using head to head 1st makes no sense.

In dist 3 ties stand.  There is no tie breaker.  Now for the order they put them in that may be different but if 2 teams end with the same points both win.

Squash - that's what I thought too- but she was pretty sure...  ahhhhhh

And Coach K - I thought they may do that as well - but the person she talked to said they would only do that for a first place tie - not second place. Who knows - I just thought that the people giving out information for District 3 should have a little more thought before they spoke - but guess I was wrong!!  ha ha ha   :D
