Good call on this one Brat--I was surpirsed that we didn't see more flags and public demonstration this morning on the way into work.  Do we all forget so soon what happened five short years ago.  To be able to stand together as a country and vow that this won't happen again on our land is huge.  I thank the many men and women who protect us, serve our country and lead as we face an enemy that has no facial figures and is cowardly hiding before they strike.  God bless America.

Today is an important day to remember regardless of what political affiliation we all are.

My dd asked me about this day last night and bless her heart still does not fully understand why someone or a group would do such a terrible thing.   All I could say to her that there was a lot of division in the world and hatred but the good will ultimately win because the human spirit and our country has people that will never give up or let our freedom go. We have had countless men and women give up their lives for our country and we should never forget that!

We should never take our freedom for granted especially when we watch our children run across the fields each weekend playing the game they love sharing laughter with their friends and family.

That is why we should remember this day and never take anything we have for granted!

I was on a message board a while back. One of the posters is a NYC policewoman and went to Ground Zero as soon as it happened. She spent long, hard, tireing hours ( days) helping and I can remember the posts/ pictures she made on the subject.
Here is her account if you want to read it. Bring a tissue........

Soccerdaddio, your avatar is perfect for what you conveyed to your daughter last night.  Priceless...I remember playing our first game after 9/11 five years ago.  Both teams came to the center circle with the coaches and referees, held hands and had a moment of silence for this event.  It truly was one of the best days on the soccer field in my life.

Remembering 9/11 ......
« Reply #6 on: September 11, 2006, 12:26:45 PM »

it was shortly after 9/11 that I decided to rejoin the Army to serve my country once again after a 10 year break.  I was hoping to do my part and hoped that the military would find a need for an old veteran (38 at the time) in what I knew would be an up-coming conflict.  I guess they figured my time spent in Grenada, Panama, and Desert Storm was enough because they have assigned me to a desk job her in the states.

In a way i am now glad I did not have to go this time because it was the following summer my daughter asked if she could play soccer with her friends at school for the first time.

This day makes me remember all the people and hero's we have lost on that day, and since that day on our "war on terrorism". That is a lot of dad's (and mom's) that will never again get to see there children playing the game we love to watch them play.

God Bless,
Nate

My dd  sent me an email about 9-11 the other day asking everyone to pray and remember those who died that day.  She also commented on how tragic that day was.   Our little ones have hearts of compassion that we should be proud of and that they love our country.
