Just a post to yak about this or that

What about the Crush?  What happened?  Two losses in a row, is it just that other teams are getting better or are they just figuring out how to beat them or are the poor little girls in tangerine just getting pooped out. (they did have a killer schedule over the summer that put most other teams to shame).  Would love to hear from Crusher or Chillout but doubt they will add any insight.
If CP's haven't noticed, most CP's don't post much win their DD loses :(

Another topic Dragon thinking about (along with other CP's ) is the strength of teams in the GP and D1 Red brackets.  Do a lot of you think the teams are even with the "higher" brackets??
I know CP's of teams in those brackets would say their teams just as strong.  But what did summer tourny play show?

Last topic of Blah blah blah is thinking about next year already.  How many kids will move to a team that have a winning record or do good things during the state cup run.  A lot of CP's will say that their coachs have a "long term" plan, but does that mean that all the CP's believe them?  Even if you stay, some of the CP will take their DD's and split and your team could get "weaker" rather you want it to or not.  Not meaning to bash any  team but for example, if you have the choice of ECFC or going to NWN what would you do.  A lot of parents will say they will stay, but Dragon know that 1 or 2 CP's would be going fast as they can.  If you are a parent who stays, how long will it be for?  How many years will you wait out for the coachs "promises" to come true. (again, Dragon is not picking on ECFC, just using them for example).

Another thought is, just because your DD is on a "winning" team, and you feel she is part of their success, does that lock down a spot on next years team?  Even the "Best" teams are always looking to get better.  The team that wins the State cup could add 6-7 news girls to the squad next year, then its "bye bye CP and DD".  Would that be a kick in the pants or what?

Just a few things to ponder, respond to the ones you wish to

On the topic of the Crush... They are pooped out.  They are 10 and maybe 11 yr old girls that have been asked to push their bodies to the ultimate, and every week they have to travel to play a league game.  How fair is that to them?  That is all about the coaches ego!!!  IMHO!  Will the parents continue to put up with it??  Will the kids want to continue every week, or will they bounce back and prove to be a powerhouse in State Cup??

As far as teams go, I think you have to base that on your child.  Is she happy where she is at?  Is she learning and growing every week?  Two things you should ask your DD every week is 1- Did she have fun? 2- Did she try something new?  Always encourage that.. that is how they grow as players.

Next year... every team will be different.  No parent should fool themselves or their child into thinking that next year is guaranteed!!!  Without a doubt it will all be different based on who shows up at tryouts!!!  The better the team in the previous year, the more difficult the tryouts will be!!!

I cannot say anything about the mighty Crush as we have dubbed them, but I believe that little girls have to have time to be little girls, with the travel and the summer schedule burn out is not out of the question. Maybe they will snap out of it, we will see then again maybe not :( .

:( As for kids moving, there are alway a few CP's that see thier DD as the next Mia. That she needs to be on the best team and will move their DD to that team, even if she wants to stay where she is. I know of a kid that started at FW then jumped to Xfire, then tried 2 other teams, unfortunatly by the time he tried the last two all the clubs knew who he was and his families act. He is not playing this year no one would pick him up. CP's do what you think is best but the grass is not greener at the next clubs pitch.

Yes every team will be different next year. Kids(parents) decide they are not up to the rigors of select. Kids(parents) jump teams. New kids move into the area. I have found though that the best teams always seem to have a core of 8 to 10 players that stay with a team for long periods of time. It seems to create a bond with those players and they become very good. :D

As for Crush.  I think the learning curve is just catching up with them.  They have been together for so long, and played so much, that they are nearing the flatter top of the curve.  Other teams are still on the lower, steeper part of the curve.  Crush is a very good team made up of fine young ladies.  I just think that the other teams are catching up.

Changing teams is a personal decision... the childs person, not the CP's.  Especially at 10-11 years old fun is based more on friends than winning.  If the child wants to challenge herself and step up, thats great.  If the CP moves her up in hopes of having a better chance of getting a full ride to North Carolina or Santa Clara... well that is just dilussional.

Your third topic is a tricky one.  Tryouts are hard on everyone.  On some of the better teams after state cup, the players may want to try out for at least two clubs as there will be plenty of other girls from outside the team looking to take her spot.  IMO, tryouts and those first few weeks of practice and the first tourny are just brutal for kids and CP's alike.

Very good responses fellow CP's.  Sometimes it's good just to put down what is stirring around in your head

How many kids Dressing up for team practice tonight since its Halloween?

If you look at list of SUPER 6 and you were Dragon, half way through the season would you add any teams??  Better yet, would you take away any teams?

How many more games will the Crush lose?  This week is the rematch between them and the Gumbygals.   Gumby should post when and where match is, Dragon sure would like to come watch if not during his own DD game and if it not too far away

Will there be CP's 95 next year?  Dragon would love to see it, but will this group of 94's continue to be the craziest of the bunch.  Next year Dragon will be doing U12 gotw, potw, etc, etc.....  Like squash say "hope another Dragon step up to the plate".  As far as Dragon concerned, He will continue to follow the 94's until all are off to college, etc.  That will be a said day for Dragon :( ,  Dragon think he will have big party to thank all CP's who stayed along for the ride.  Dragon will have to make that his "coming out" party as well.
  Dragon get upset just thinking of it.  Only 7 more years of "blah blah blah" then Dragon have to retire.  Maybe someday (years from now) posters like Davey, Gunner, and Souldefender will have little superstars of their own and they will be the next Dragon

As for the Crush, I agree that the competition is just getting better.   A lot of these U11 teams have not all played together before and now they're getting into the groove.

As for DD not making it next year, this will be a new experience for a lot of them, in terms of having to fight for spots on the team.  If they have truly fallen in love with their team, there will be a lot of heartbreak and tears :(.  It's hard to prepare myself for that much less my daughter, but I know that this is the way it is from here on out and I will do everything I can to get her excited about other teams too.   She loves her team, and has said she'll give up soccer if she doesn't make it, but I'm working on that with her as disappointment is a reality she'll be contending with the rest of her life.  And I know she won't really give it up as she loves the sport so much.

Dragon hope NO GIRLS go home on try-out night with tears in their eyes.  Dragon hope every girl get to play on team they want ;)
CP's can help by not always thinking their DD is ready for a higher level team.  Dragon would suggest asking coach at end of year.  Just say; "is DD ready to play at higher level?" , If coach is not greedy and wants whats best for your DD he/she should give you an honest evaluation

I believe DD's coach will be honest with all of the girls and DD will get an evaluation when the time is right.  I don't know where she ranks - I would guess somewhere in the middle.  She is a contributor, but may not have everything the coach is looking for and if better players come along, well, we all know how that goes.  I am just trying to prepare her and open her to other teams, because I guarantee if she doesn't make her current team, there will definitely be tears (and once CP sees DD tears, CP will have tears too!).

:? Being a CP of a older boy and a DD I have to ask. Has your coach come out and given you any thoughts on next year. My sons coach came out and told certian boys that they really needed to step up if they were going to make the team the next year and what they needed to do. Some of those did and a couple did not, they play for other teams now. So will your coaches at least give the girls a warning or will it be out of the blue, big old croc tears, something all CP's hate :( [/color]

Yes, the coach has indicated that he will let the players at risk know.  And he has not told my DD that she may not make it, but I fear it because of things he has said about my DD not being consistently aggressive enough to play any other position than mid-field.

Dragon agree their skill level is really high.  Still have to give credit to other teams too.  In next year or two all skill levels should start to equal out.
Good luck to your team if you Crush CP ;)
Hope they play with full squad against Gumby's gals

I have coached for about 12 years and I learned something early on.  Make sure you are always evaluating the kids.  They deserve to know not only where they stand on the team but how you think they are compared to other kids in their age group.  I evaluate my team on a weekly basis in 22 different catagories. Obsessive? probably.  But every single player and parent knows where they stand.  I also make it clear in our first parent meeting that I cut the 2 bottom players and pick up 3 new players.  It makes for an extremly competitave enviroment at practice and builds a very strong team.

Actually that may not be to bad idea. My DD played last year with her best friends team, a bu-11 indoor team, and practice with her brothers team a couple of times and came out of it a much more aggressive player. At first she was scared then realized that boys could be beat just as easily as girls and really enjoyed playing. Boys tended to a little less rough believe it or not. :D

You should offer your service's as a "master evaluator" to other DD.  For 1 hr you could eval the kid on your 22 point checklist.  And for a "small" fee, give them a print out or a list of their strengths and weakness'.  I bet you would get a few takers

There is no way that you can effictively eval someone in an hour.  It's a long ongoing process that more coaches should do.  It comes from UNC Anson Dorrance's game plan.  You have to make practice time equal to or more competitive than a game.  As a CP you should be asking your coach for a evaluation of you child if you have not recieved one this year yet.  How does you DD know what to work on if she hasn't.
