I had to see what all the fuss was about with my Wife and Daughter. It seems they are on this site daily so I thought I would get in on all the fun.
My DD plays for The FC Royals U-11 Team and I am one proud Papa of her and her team. Due to my work schedule I cannot always see her games but I am the first call on the cell phone after the game for the play by play details and I am very proud of all of them.
Let me tell you something from a Dad of 4 Daughters and 1 Son (We are kind of out numbered in our house). Soccer has been one of the best things for my 11 year old. She eats breaths and sleeps it and her room in a shrine to soccer. Thank goodness I have one Tomboy in the bunch. But earlier this year on the first day of the Royals Tryouts, infact about 2 hours before it, my heart with no warning decided to stop. One of my daughters who is developmentally delayed called 911 and started CPR while my little soccer player remained calm and relayed the information to the 911 dispatcher. My wife called Dad of 2 Tomboys to come and get my daughter for the tryouts since my wife and I were enroute to the hospital. While my daughter was ash white I am told (I don't remember anything) she told my wife and the lead paramedic that she was going to try her hardest at the tryouts for her Dad.

And she did it. My wife told me that the love, support and prayers from the team parents for my family and the same for my Daughter from her teammates was a bit overwelming but it goes to show that those that participate in team sports are some of the best people around.    I was in a coma but came out of it and while I have no family history of heart troubles and am only 47 years old this was a wake up call. You are probably asking yourself why I am sharing this with you publicly and here is why; 1) I have never had the opportunity to thank all the Royals Parents who supported my family through this time 2) Heart Disease can effect anyone regardless of age, sex or race and as the poster person for the American Heart Association I wanted to take the opportunity to tell people to have regulr checkups, exercise, eat smart and learn CPR. This means everyone, players included. If my DD had not learned CPR as a Girl Scout I would not be typing this email today. When the paramedics arrived at our home (About 3 Minutes) My heart had stopped and they had to shock it 6 times to bring me back but my daughter started and continued CPR getting me air so that I did not suffer brain damage. When you are playing a contact sport like soccer you never know when you may need to use it.
Anyway, this is a long one for a first post but I am glad to be on board.
