i agree dudette, tell'em you love them, try your best and see ya in a couple of hours cuz i'm off jogging, shopping or at the pub
it's their soccer.
Sorry mr cool, but I'll have to disagree with you on this one. I think parents that stick around and watch their kids at tryouts, practices, games, etc., are showing the kids they care and they love to watch them do their thing. Telling them you're off to go shopping is giving them the message you have your own life and are not that interested in what's happening in their life. Tryouts are an important day for them, and I think the parents should try to be there if they can, just like they had a school play or something.
I don't think poolboy is implying he doesn't care about his kids interests, just that at a time when pressure from outside sources seems to be at it's highest, he knows when to pull away and let the kids just do their thing.....
some parents can learn a lot from not being there too.... let the kids tell them what they thought of their experience... 9 out of 10 wil say it was fun and that they maybe even learned something new or met a new friend or saw some other players they played against...
THIS IS THE REAL ENJOYMENT OF A KID... not whether they make the A team or B team or whatever.... often I wonder if the kids has that, "I need to make the A team attitude" because that is all they hear the CP's say to them. Ok, off the soapbox....
