We could all one up each other, but personally I'd find a good fit for my player. I think that's the most important thing.
No title or past history can make a player better, but a player who believes in their coach can. Find the right fit and your player will blossom into something other than just a soccer player.
Squash's point is a good one: Find the right place for your kid. Don't pay attention to where all the ODP kids are going, don't pay attention to which club has the most teams in the finals (your kid won't be playing for more than one of those teams, at most), and don't fall for the "accept the B team we might move you to the A team" rap (almost always, it is a lie).
Find the team and coach where your kid will play and develop.
My oldest child passed up several highly ranked teams to finish out his career at a lower ranked P1 team. His decision was based on what was important to him: A coaching staff he respected, a chance to practice and play locally and have a more balanced life and time for a tough academic load, and a head coach with excellent credentials for placement in top schools in the east. His decision was the right one: He played in good California and local tournaments, his team made the championship cup finals and his coach helped him get recruited to the top 10 liberal arts college of his dreams. He played in college and made the NCAA division III playoffs one year.
In the case of my younger child, my wife and I had to decide for the U15 year whether the child should stick with the A team, where he was projected as a bench player, or go to the B team where he would star. We chose the A team because we trusted the coach to give the kid a chance, and because we knew that he could handle the challenge and accept the consequences if he didn't. Fortunately, he scored goals at Regionals and Surf Cup in the summer, and earned a starting spot that he didn't give up for the remainder of his youth soccer. However, if we hadn't trusted the coach, or if we felt that the kid wasn't up to the challenge, we wouldn't have hesitated to move him to the B team.
