Was a good game and could have been a better game if it had been 11 vs 11. 10 vs 11, it's going to be tough to win. Especially if you lose your goalie like they did.

Great effort from the boys at Eastside though.

He came out on a a ball sent over the top of his defense and ran into the streaking Crossfire forward just outside the 18 yard box and got red carded and basically knock himself out of the game as well. His bell was run or he hurt something fairly bad, because he was down for awhile.

Regardless he would have been sent off with the redcard. He's a very solid keeper though, and to me makes a huge difference to his team. It changed the game...they played with 10 players for the majority of the second half. :|

Dang!  Sounds like a rough collision!  Hope he is OK!  I didnt think that game would have been that close and if they hadnt lost him it sounds like the outcome could have been different.  I was going to go to that game today but didnt have time.  I will be there to see the U16, U17, and U13's tomorrow. I think the U13 game will be a good one to watch!!!

More than Likely the best game of the day will be the 18's They tied both league games this years. Both teams were in the final last year and the game went to a shoot-out after a 2-2 regulation and overtimes. I expect much of the same today.

As a curious bystander of the games I must admit the Eastside/Crossfire BU15 game was many things. It may not have been pretty but it was entertaining despite the rain. It shows these boys have   some high school ball under their belts as the physicality and dirty play was quite evident with many yellows and a red  being served. While some of the yellows were out of frustration, some were blatant. I am still not sure about the keeper being  red carded however. It is quite obvious though, there is no love lost between these two clubs.
It was however  well fought and at a very good pace. Eastside won everything in the air and really took Crossfire out of their game for long stretches. At the time of the keeper injury and red card they were winning 2-1 after equalizing just before half on a nice combo between the forwards, followed by a defensive blunder early in the second that netted their second goal.
With a man down they still knocked Crossfire around but somehow Crossfire had enough composure to settle and finally move the ball on the ground when the field opened for them. Their equalizer was on a carom and the third goal was just brilliance.Eastside fought to the end but could not make it happen.
Either way neither club would do well versus Cali teams in Regionals. Crossfire needs more strength to match their skill and Eastside needs to play more soccer and less f(b)ootball. Both teams have some excellent players. Congratulations to both Clubs.

I am sure you are right squash.  I wanted to see the U18 game too.  Watched them in a very boring semi final game last weekend and figured their game would be the one to watch this weekend.  But it was too darn early for me.  Trying to get out of here to make the U16 game at 1pm!!

My thoughts exactly....

I felt the better team lost last year and again this year. I'm not taking anything away from ECity either. They are a dang fine team, and to be honest. I saw a bunch of kids on both teams that will have good college careers.

The goalie is OK, but not great, was not moving well at tryouts and after the game when BJ congratulated EFC's efforts despite the Red Card, he asked a boy next to him "who got a redcard"?  So was really out of it.

Will have to review the tape on the Redcard called.  I have seen this goalie come out often and beyond the penalty area which is allowed and use his head to clear the ball away.  I believe that this is what he was trying to do.  That was the third time a Crossfire player knocked into the EFC goalie, got one yellow card the second time it happened.

The weird thing was that after the play, they awarded Crossfire a corner and not a free kick.  Thought that the officiating was lacking in this game, both ways.

Good luck to Crossfire at Regionals.

Sounds like a fullblown concussion, probable grade 2 and if he lost consciousness he is a grade 3 .

If GRADE 2,he needs to be asymptomatic for a week before he can be cleared to play ANY sport!!!

If GRADE 3, 2 weeks ONLY if neuro checks are normal. Get him to a neurologist please.

On a soccer field less than 24 hrs after a probable concussion...unbelievable, maybe he was worried about getting cut after witnessing the 2006 tryout debacle at EFC..............shameful.

Shame on you Eddy - as always you read between the lines.

He was NOT playing, only there in street clothes supporting his teammates.

How are tryouts going for you?  Will we be seeing you supporting Dynamo next year?

Who's reading between the lines?  Did I imply he was playing?
I think not.  He shouldn't have been at the soccer field period,  unless he was worried about being cut and still he shouldn't be there.

Tryouts are fine, and No,  I will not be rooting for the Dynamo next year.

The EFC keeper is arguably the best in the league. Hope he is OK to continue play soon.

Did hear a rumor that the second EFC keeper was already cut and that the ECFC keeper has come on board? Fact or fiction?

Also a shakeup at Xfire with the NWN keeper going there ? as the starter or backup ?

Could not make it to the game.  Do you know if there were taping and selling copies for public consumption?  They have in years past but don't know about this year.

Hey VMS
what did you think of the game?
I thought it was the best game I had seen all year  - it had drama, controversy, lots of goals.& Two very different styes of play

Sounds Like NWN will be getting stonger for U16 & we will have an even bigger rivalry with more former EFC players on the team

It sounds like NWN is once again starting the year without a goalie.  Tough way to begin the season.

Don't know the name of the doctor that looked at him at the game, but I believe he works with the National team.  I talked with the GK at the EFC GK tryouts and he said he was out for at least a week, so grade 2 based on the VMS report.
I thought he came out on a clear objective to head the ball and both players met at the same time, not a play that deserved a booking in my opinion, but what do I know?

I echo Anarchist's statements. I thought it was intense and fun to watch. Thought EFC  made Xfire look out of sorts at times due to domination in the air.Their speed and size cause serious mismatches for Bernie.  On the ground, Xfire is the better club but they have a hard time sustaining. The two teams obviously do not like each other , so that rivalry will never grow stale;) I am sure Xfire will clean house again this year . He already has picked up a new keeper and picked up the ECFC kid who played with NWN at SuperY. Tough breaks for NWN as both were expected to be there next year. I guess Xfire pays more ;)

As for NWN, not sure yet about the keeper ... and not all positions have been secured. Excellent group of kids made it tough to pick after one tryout. And yes, FarPost , at least one former starter for EFCRED has signed on.  The defense has already been upgraded to one of the biggest and fastest backlines in the league now :D

Will see what happens.  Snoho has upgraded. Xfire will. No clue about WPFC or the others. This is always an exciting ( and aggravating time of year ) for the teams as promises made become promises broken.

DID I READ THAT CORRECTLY> EDDY is your son moving to a new team?

goalies shoud be seen  just like a field player when they are outside of the box, IF the keeper went to head it and there was a collision, it should have been seen as that, a collision.. alas I was not there so I don't know. I am surprised at the amount of contact both players attacking and goalies defending are allowed. I watched a highschool game where the attacker and the goalie collided and the ref. waved play on. after making sure both players were ok. NO cards!

Hope the keeper is feeling better soon. Hope the field player is ok too.

Have a great tryouts everyone! lots of movement it seems.

There is nothing shameful about his attending and observing tryouts unless his doctor told him that he couldn't.  Do you know what medical advice he received, Eddy?

You often show up for tryouts, even if your injured to register and check in with the coach, they need to know you are trying out again, even if you are laid up. I am sure they knew this beforehand, kids often cant stay away, they do worry that they will be cut or they want to see the new blood, competition for their position. I know you can call the coach and let them know your situation, but if you are not playing and you are just up and walking around not doing any harm to your self what does it hurt to come check out the tryouts as long as your not in knocking it around with your head or playing,. I had a concussion when swimming and I was back two days later, watching swimming, Yeah I probly should have stayed home bu tinstead I got some fresh air and got to hang out for a while with my friends and watch a sport I loved. I wasnt swimming I was sitting and watching. IT appears the goalie was doing the same.

Just my two cents worth
