NO! the upset won't happen, Ireland are playing too strong and the athletes up front are back. look for Ireland to be heavy favorites to repeat. SSC 2:0.

FC Ptld Marine vs LOSC Dynamite
Marine is very very deep with players. LOSC size may give FC problems going forward, but look for marine to be the suprise of the group! FC wins 3:1.

HM, we lost 2 defenders.  We've realigned our defense, which has actually worked out really well.  You saw the defense in that spring game we played against you.  Unfortuantely, we'll only have 2 subs for the State Cup tourney.

sk4, you are quick!!!

I heard FC WIllamette beat Southside 1-0, as well.  I'd be curious to hear some details from that game.  I know the officiating has been a little questionable down there, but that's part of the game.

Speaking of questionable officiating... I just don't understand why the referee's do not call hand balls consistently (I know, it's called handling).  Bend had at least 8 hand balls today and the referee only called them for it 3 times.  Energy had 2 hand balls and both were called.  Sigh

Westside scored 10-15 minutes into the game.  The ref actually called a hand ball and Energy had a free kick just outside the box on the left corner of the box.  Energy #9 had the sweetest chip shot I have ever seen.  We all thought it was going to go over the goal, but instead it dipped just inside the far post.  I don't think any goalie could have stopped it.  

Bend scored about 7 minutes into the second half on a PK.  Little pushing by both the forward and sweeper.  I'm not sure it was really a foul, but it was called.  

Overall, it was a good game to watch.  Energy had several opportunities, but could not put it in the net.  They had a great look and the striker put the ball just too far across the goal.  Energy probably should have gotten another goal, but it ended in a tie.

PK's... Bend was up 3-1 after 3 kicks.  Bend missed the next two kicks while Energy made their two kicks.  Both teams made kick #6.  Bend missed kick #7.  Shu stepped up and made kick #7... Energy has the tie breaker against Bend.

Woo Hoo

It was a good game to watch.  There was a lot of good soccer played.  We made it rain-free until about the final 5-10 minutes of the game.  I don't recall seeing any umbrellas.  Friends and family stood in the rain, waiting with anticipation to see who would pull this thing out,.  I think there were even some prayers being said in the stands and on the field.

Overall, this was a great match up.  Both teams are pretty evenly matched.  I think Energy played a little better than Bend, but the score didn't indicate that.

We didn't win Dragon.  We tied.  We did the PK's as a tie-breaker should it be necessary.  

Last winter, after the fall season was completed, the teams were ranked 1 through 13 I believe (I think there were 13 teams competing in the State Cup).  The brackets were divided up using the following system:

Bracket 1
1, 8, 9

Bracket 2
2, 7, 10

Bracket 3
3, 6, 11

Bracket 4
4, 5, 12, 13

There were 6 Gold Division teams, 6 Silver Division teams, and 1 Division II team in the State Cup.  The Gold teams ranked #1 - #6, Silver teams ranked #7 - #12, and the Division II team ranked #13.

I hope that makes sense.

Anyways, the teams play one another in each bracket.  The top 2 teams from each bracket make it to the Quarter Finals.  We are currently playing the Quarter Finals.  The way those teams were divided is:

The winners from Bracket 1 and Bracket 4. along with the 2nd place teams from Bracket 2, and Bracket 3 made up Bracket 1 in the Quarter Finals.  The winners from Bracket 2 and Bracket 3, along with the 2nd place teams from Bracket 1 and Bracket 4 make up Bracket 2 in the Quarter Finals.  There are 2 brackets in the Quarter Finals.  

Again, the top 2 teams from each bracket will make it to the Semi-Finals.  The winner from Bracket 1 plays the 2nd place finisher from Bracket 2.  The winner from Bracket 2 plays the 2nd place finisher from Bracket 1.  

The winner of each plays for the Finals.  

Is it different in Washington?

Not different per say, just a TON of more teams in the State Cup (s)...

As you may know by reading WPS we have 3 state cups... kinda like a Silver, Gold, & Platinum level if dat makes sense.


Don't know what is confusing me really...guess I just remember your team beating Southside at one point, and remember someone saying that it meant something towards your cup? :roll:

That was last fall.  That was the first round of the State Cup.  Westside and Southside were in the same bracket and Westside won the game 1-0.  That determined the next round and put Westside in the easier bracket.  I don't know that easier is the right word, but I think it fits.  Southside has 3 tough teams in their bracket and only 2 will move on.  I think there are only 2 tough teams in Westside's bracket, although ya never really know what'll happen until it's over with.  

I gotta agree with HM about tomorrow game predictions.

As you may know by reading WPS we have 3 state cups... kinda like a Silver, Gold, & Platinum level if dat makes sense.

Oregon has something similar to your 3 State Cups...

Oregon has the Kohl's Cup, President's Cup, and the State Cup.  

I believe the Rec teams play for the Koh's Cup, the lower level Classic teams play for the President's Cup, and the higher level Classic teams play for the State Cup.  

I could be wrong, but that's what it appears anyways looking at OYSA's website.
