Will this weekend determine the final four or anything in Duckville?

Yeah, there are some big games this weekend.  Eight teams will be down to four teams.  There are a number of different scenarios as to who will advance.  It's an exciting time.

Oregon U12G schedule and possible scenarios.

Today:

(B)  SSC Ireland at FC Portland   12:30 pm at Liberty HS

If Ireland wins they move on to the semi-finals.  A loss or tie by Ireland and FC Portland moves on.

Sunday:

(A) WUSC at Westside    9:00 am at Tualatin Hills
(A) Eastside at Bend       11:00 am at Mt. View HS
(B) FC Willamette at LO    11:00 am at Lakeridge HS

WUSC and LOSC have been eliminated.

I'm going to go ahead and assume Westside and FC Willamette will  come away victorious.  If so,  if Bend wins they and Westside move on to the semi-finals.  If Eastside wins, Eastside and Westside move on to the semi-finals.  IF Bend and Eastside tie, Bend would move on to the semis and Eastside would move on to the semis UNLESS Westside beats WUSC by three goals or more.

Wish us luck.  It should be very interesting.

A quick recap on the SSC Ireland/FC Portland game.

Ireland got the scoring started early with a cross by #2 to #15 who put it into the right corner.  Ireland made it 2-0 when #2 scored on a breakaway about midway through the first half.  Ireland pretty much controlled the entire first half and most of the second half,  until FC Portland scored with about 10 minutes left.  FC had a direct penalty kick about 25 yards out left of the penalty box.  Their player kicked it hard but right at the goalie.  Our goalie bobbled it as she was falling down.  Next thing you know, our goalie is on her back, the ball is loose, and the FC Portland striker popd it into the right corner to make it 2-1.

Here we are on cruise control.  Next thing you know,  we are scrambling for our tournament lives.  Ireland had a couple of good opportunities late, but couldn't put it in.  The girls were able to take care of business and move on to the semis.  I have to hand it to FC Portland.  A lot of teams would have packed the box with eight girls and gone for the tie, since that was all they needed to advance.  They took the high road and played us straight up.  A lot of class.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow.  I think I'll go have that cold beer now.

Thanks HM...

I have never, in my life, seen a team work so hard to score one goal.  The matchup wasn't even close.  Westside absolutely dominated the game.  The girls had more than 20 shots on goal and were only able to put 1 in the net.  A lot of shots were kicked right to the goalie or just wide or shanked altogether, but the goalie also made a few terrific saves.

We had a bit of a scare there towards the end of the game, prior to us scoring our goal.  Rapids had one opportunity on goal and it came with about 7 or 8 minutes to go.  Rapids player got a breakaway.  Our goalie came out and made a terrific deflection, but the ball was still in the box.  One of our defenders came into the picture and deflected a shot attempt.  WHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!

We all thought the game was over, but the girls never gave up, fought hard, and eventually were able to win the game.

Other news....

FC Willamette lost to Lake Oswego.  FC Willamette is now out of the State Cup with that loss.  FC Portland, who I'm sure thought they were finished, suddenly has life.  Also, Bend beat Eastside 4-0 this morning.  Here are the brackets now:

Bracket A - Bend Storm vs. FC Portland Marine

Bracket B - Southside Ireland vs. Westside Metros Energy

Both games will be played on Saturday, April 28th, at 9:00AM at the Recreational Center in Beaverton, Fields 4 & 5.  Both games should be very exciting!!!

Both games should be pretty exciting next weekend.  It's too bad they play at the same time.  I'd love to watch the other two teams play.  I think the 4 teams left are fairly evenly matched.  Any of these 4 teams could take the title.  Good luck to all.

All 4 teams played in the Gold Division in the Spring League ...

WSM Energy 1 - Bend Storm 0

WSM Energy 2 - Southside Ireland 2

WSM Energy 0 - FC Portland Marine 0

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Southside Ireland 1 - Bend Storm 1

Southside Ireland 2 - FC Portland Marine 1

Southside Ireland 2 - WSM Energy 2

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Bend Storm 0 - WSM Energy 1

Bend Storm 1 - Southside Ireland 1

Bend Storm 4 - FC Portland Marine 2

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

FC Portland Marine 1 - Southside Ireland 2

FC Portland Marine 2 - Bend Storm 4

FC Portland Marine 0 - WSM Energy 0

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Overall Record between the 4 teams

WSM Energy 1 - 0 - 2

Southside Ireland 1 - 0 - 2

Bend Storm 1 - 1 - 1

FC Portland Marine 0 - 2 - 1

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

There really doesn't appear to be a clear cut favorite looking at their records in the spring season.  In the Quarterfinals of the State Cup, WSM Energy and Bend Storm tied each other 1-1, while Southside Ireland beat FC Portland Marine 2-1.  This is anybodies contest.
