UW youth scholar program

Any posters have any children that are in this program???

And if so how do they like it???

All info would greatly be appreciated especially the kind not found in google. The inside scope info.

My impression is that it is like premier soccer. It is just  making/taking  the best young Brains from the state. I guess it is similar to Crossfire in that aspect.

BTW PM me if you want to remain anonymous.

My daughter was invited to attend a couple of summers ago, but there was "no way" she was going to spend her summer doing math.   :?

One of her friends went and LOVED it, guess it all depends on the kid...

GOOD LUCK

It is really hard to get in. Way harder than I thought. You have to take the SAT/ACT prior to getting accepted if you are planning to attend in the summer  btw 7th and 8th grade. In addition the student has to score I'm guessing at least over 500+ in any SAT section she takes. My dd is smart, but not that smart. I guess I could put her in a SAT/ACT test taking course. It would be like a trainer but for the SAT/ACT.      And I thought joining Crossfire was tough.
That would be like bending the ball like Beckam in order to make Crossfire, and  dribbling like Best  and Maradona (sp).

Congratulations

What grade had your dd and her friend finished before being invited to enter the summer program?

Your dd and her friend must be extremely bright and very passionate for learning.

Got my dd an SAT/ACT prep cd program for her computer.  Helped her when she had to go take the test in 10th grade as part of one of her classes (Pre-SAT is what I think they called it).  Yes, these specialized programs are funny, you receive an invitation to participate as one of the "select" kids in the state, but FIRST you have to take a test and score well, but only AFTER you send in a copy of their scores on the latest ITBS or WASL test showing that they have already scored at a high level in one of the subjects. It's CRAZY!!!!
