Its about the PLAYERS people!!!
The state has for too long listened to the "Its not fair to my team" people. Youth soccer is not about the team, parents are about the team. Youth soccer is about the players... end of story!!!
Yes, which team won State is fun to talk about, and I will get as exited as anyone else for a team I like does well, but the goal here is to develop PLAYERS!
Now, I don't really know if this is the right path (being a parent I too like the team vs. team thing), but at least give it a try. PDL is as good a place as any, especially since they are the clubs that have the A-B-C clubs to do it with. If it looks good... expand.
I agree that soccer is about the players, but BK and Squash raise valid points that can also hurt players.
I will use an example that I saw this weekend as a ref (no naming the team or age, okay). There was a B team that used some A team players to win what was going to be one of their toughest games of the season. Okay, they won. Now . . . let's say that next years PDL is partially based on your win/loss this year . . . well, did that B team really win that game? Done carefully, using such a pass can skew the results. That is not necessarily good player development either.
I sincerely hope and choose to believe that in general coaches will play their own teams and borrow only for injuries. In general, in feels more ethical to move B players up to A teams than the other way around. I know that this is sort of sore point with me, so I admit I am biased (B teams heavily borrowing A team players). I have heard people say that just a couple of players makes no difference, but that has not been my experience. Two strong players can change an entire game.
D1 Informant, I hear your complaint! As Squash said, this idea has been around since my oldest one (now in college) was playing soccer. I guess they could have chosen any given district instead of PDL, but it needed to be a limited number for a pilot program.
