"NEW TURF" Fields
« on: November 01, 2007, 04:18:03 PM »

Besides any HS football/soccer fields that have the "new" turf.  What are the available turf fields that are within the greater Puget Sound being used by the surrounding FC's?
I know of the following:

Auburn Game Farm - 2 full sized fields used by Synergy FC
NW Nationals new field
Wilson Field (Kent) - I full sized field + 1 smaller sized field used primarily by KYSA
Starfire - all 4 glorious fields used by anyone and everyone
...and...

Heritage Park in South Hill is a very nice complex for soccer, but only has grass fields (one of the biggest mistakes they made was not putting in at least one turf field), and only one soccer field is lit.  The complex also has nice baseball/softball fields.  It is used by the high schools, Pierce College, SHSC, WSWSA, the local football clubs and of course the local baseball/softball teams.

Bummer for the soccer players of the area having no turf there.
So where do teams practice and play at during the winter so the fields don't get chewed up?
I'm thinking that Rogers has turf, so does Puyallup ( Sparks Stadium) Ballou has grass..not sure about Emerald Ridge or other Jr highs.

None of the schools have turf - they all share Sparks (which is old school turf -not field turf), although Kalles Jr High which is being redone is rumored to possibly be getting turf.  As for the SH Club they use Sparks and Bethel.  As for practice in the winter (which should be really interesting for the older girls that haven't had league yet) it is one of those turf fields or nothing.....

They are nice fields. I have a friend that works for Pierce Co Parks and Rec and Heritage is his baby - tough to keep them nice into the wet weather and the football kids are hard on them (when you put 50+ kids on one field at one time what can you expect, plus they don't move around much but alot of stuff done all in one spot)  - but they do put a lot into them to keep them up as long as possible.

Is Kalles the JrHi near downtown and the fairgrounds? I was by there two days ago and they were spraying Hydoseed on everything.  I saw what look like two different field size spaces being covered.

The error at Heritage (other than no turf0 was putting in permanent  goals. You can't save the goal areas if you can't move the goals.

Used to. Went to school at Woodland, Ballou and Rogers.
Grew up in the area of Summit and lived in Midland for a while too.

Shoreline has Shoreline A & B which are some nice quality turf fields (with lights) and Everett has Kasch Park with three turf fields (not sure if there are lights there or not?!).  Continuing North, I believe that other then High School Stadiums, there are not any turf field complexes.  Now Oak Harbor has a brand new, state of the art sstadium with covered seating on both the home and visitors sides.  Oh and I must throw in a Go Wildcats as they begin the journey to repeat as the 4A State Champs this Saturday.

Our local complex, Ft. Nugent Park, just added two high quality, sand based with incorporated drainage and watering system, "grass" fields.  Spent over $1.2M for this phase, but the city council wouldn't put turf or lighting on them as it would have almost doubled the cost.  Our complex now will be able to be set up with 7-9 full size grass fields (depending on the dimensions desired).  Now if we could just get a few more hotels and who knows, maybe a soccer tourney in the future besides the 3v3 Rock On Tournament on Memorial Day!  We are normally pretty dry from end of May through early October, except of course, this past year!  :(

Islander...Kasch most definitely has lights. Another outstanding field-turf pitch is at Shorecrest High School. Maybe it's because it's new, but the fiber seemed longer than other field turf installations in the area and so it played like a high-quality, well-manicured grass field. My players loved it.
