I think we should just have Sushi and Miso soup     ?

She is fasinated by anything Japanese!  If any of you have ever tried Miso soup you would know how it tastes like old pond water.

my family LOVES miso soup, we use half red miso paste and half white. But miso soup is all about the dashi. Unless the soup base is made correctly, you got bad miso. It's important to have the kombu simmer only, never boil. That will make your dashi taste like old pond water. And the quality of the shaved bonito is important too, but not like the kombu,,,,,

Going to a 'condo' for a few days.
Takin' my ma-in-law and meetin' the two kids in college.
Son bringing his XBOX
Bringing lots of books, maybe some DVDs

Just trying to vegitate for 5 days away from it all.

Unfortunately, bringing laptop in case I gotta work.
But, maybe I'll just forget about logging on during that time.

Well...I wish I was having fun!  I get to go on a 4 hour drive to stay the night at my husband's grandmothers (which is at a retirement living community) to have dinner in their cafeteria the following day.  The only fun part is seeing her and his great-aunts face light up when we arrive!  The kids watch movies and football all day and I try and get work done.

Anyone ever consider going to one of the many Buffet's out there for Thanksgiving?

You can eat like a pig and don't have to worry about clean-up.  No getting up at O'dark thirty to start making everything.  ;)

All I can say is that I have tried to bribe my husband with it!  It is not like we can't afford to pay for the whole darn family....but nooooo great-grandma likes to show off her family...which I can't blame her...my kids are cuties...when they aren't sprouting horns like Bad Boy!

yes, it's tuna. Shaved into very thin flakes. True miso soup has dried, whole anchovies, a piece of Kombu and bonito flakes to make the dashi. After the dashi is flavored all the stuff is pulled out and the tofu, miso paste and whatever else you like is put in. It's actually delicious and since miso is made from soy beans it's good for you too.

DUDE !! It was Victory's DD that asked for sushi and miso soup. I was just filling in the blanks for how to make it and what it was.

I don't chow down on no BAIT on T-Day, shooooot Yote,,,,,,,,, I'm a traditionalist, it's all about the experience for me. I do love Japanese food but there's a time and a place.

absolutely not. We'll have our typical turkey meal with cranberry sauce, deep fried tarantulas and a few roasted coconut grubs, no big.

T-day, first I'll go work for 4 hours, then go home and cook for my family and parents.  So if things don't go just right, I'll be irritable enough to slap someone else's Momma for them if they need me to, because I'm sure not gonna slap mine!!!

Hey Yote, say hi to the fam and grandma

OH MANNN! Now that my post went up, I realize that you guys quit talking about slapping Momma's 2 pages ago!!!

I will be working both Wednesday night and most of Thursday with our local Knights of Columbus cooking, preparing, and delivering well over 500 meals to more than 100 families in Clark and Skamania counties.  These meals include smoked turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, biscuits, and pie!!  YUMMY!

We cook and prepare the food, then other members of our parish and our local community deliver the meals.  My wife and two DDs will be delivering some meals for those who are questioning what they have to be thankful for...I'm thankful for them and for the opportunity to help out in just a very small way...

oranges are good flavor adders for poultry ala duck  l' orange. But any citrus will add to poultry. I've smoked/roasted/deep fried turkeys with all sorts of different fruit and nut combos. I'm doing apple scented turkey this year from a recipe I heard on a PBS radio show called "A splendid table".

Rachel Ray makes me so nauseous I have to leave the room if I see her on TV. She has no sort of gourmet training at all and her verbage makes me ill.

But it's easy to flavor your bird with citrus. Stuff some inside, spread some orange marmalade over during the last 30 minutes in the oven, inject an orange compound butter into the breast and thighs, put a few pieces of citrus under the skin, use some Gran Marnier or Triple Sec in your basting liquid, etc, etc.

I like Alton also, although I'm starting to get AB overload. His role as bad-guy in the recent Iron Chef search did not fit his personna at all. He was bad at being bad.

I like his chemistry background and the ways in which his "Good Eats" show breaks down common cooking methods into layman's terms. His sight gags are hilarious. His cross country motorcycle show was good too, especially at the end when he plopped over on his $15,000 BMW sport tourer at 5 mph and broke his arm. Obviously a nerd, which makes him so funny. But stay off the motorcycles Alton, leave that kind of stuff for us hairy chested, beer swilling real men.

Do you like Bobby Flay as a chef?

Went to the Metropolitan Grill on a date and spent a small fortune........why because she and I had never been there before and it was a special occasion.     Loved the steak, but loved the Seafood appetizer's even more......I figured when in a restaurant known for their steak's to order a steak and they were excellent but I would love to try some of their Seafood all in all it was fun and a wonderful place to spend $$$$$ on food especially a great steak.

I'm ready for Turkey tomorrow however.
