ODP

Is it just me who has this experience??? But [/b]why is it that when you volunteer to be the ODP team manager one year, each year thereafter that team manager is asked to do it again?
Does this mean that if I take this job on my kid is a shoe-in? I have read that your kid may not get picked on a roster for a tourney, but the team manager still must go. Okay, but when the team manager is asked back again while try-out's are still being conducted, does this mean that if that kid get's 'cut', you the team manager still must continue on with your job?
Thinking that the state should take on the roll of overseeing the teams until AFTER try-out's are finalized, then you can ask whomever to be a team manager -- or am I wrong in thinking this?
Just curious is all.

I believe what they try to do is to pick a parent of one of the stronger players to avoid such a problem.

Okay--I can't say for your age group, but here was my experience.  Team managers for ODP do change because their kids can and do get cut. I have seen it. The fact that they are still talking to the manager about "next season' is not a guarantee . . . but generally they don't ask or discuss things if your kid is really on the bubble. I saw that too. If your child gets cut, you are not obligated to stay on.  My experience was that the coaches pulled back from asking a lot of me during tryouts, so that I would be just another parent.

This is not just true of ODP, but regular teams as well--there is always this funny in between period of team management. I had a friend in this situation once--the team won state and she was doing all the prep for regionals and her kid got cut at tryouts.  Nice. She still did a bunch of the arrangment while training someone else to take over.
