Unfortunately, the did not call it a goal. Since there was no goal, one should not just 'give' them the goal.
A goal scored (and counted) can and usually does change the behavior of the game and each team. Giving a goal after the fact does not indicate how the game would turn out if the goal had been awarded as it looks like it should have.
It does look like a blatant mishandling of the call. Myself, I blame the referee much more than the AR. The referee should have talked in length with the AR to see what they called, why they called it and made sure it was offside. They should have been paying enough attention to the game to see the situation and understand themselves that it was not offside.
Not sure what happened, but like soccerdad said - that is going to be ugly.
Replaying the game is problematic. CB United would have to travel over the pass to Bellevue, play on Saturday, immediately turn around, and travel back to Moses Lake for a Sunday game against Emerald City. Hardly an "ideal" situation, but we will play the cards we are dealt.
Yeah, the center ref made a huge error. However, to his credit, he expressed sincere remorse after the game and apologized to our coach and team. You could tell he felt horrible about making such a gaffe in a state cup championship level game. Kudos to him for stepping up and admitting he had erred.
The sporting thing would be for Eastside to agree to a 2-2 tie, but I have a hunch that Eastside's coach, who happens to be its DOC, will make no such offer.
