It's gonna be those above, though, unless there is a last-minute change.

Adrian Hanauer, general manager and minority owner of the MLS Seattle team that will begin play at Qwest Field next year, is working out the details with Chris Slatt, who runs the nonprofit sports center. Hanauer also owns the minor league Seattle Sounders soccer team, which plays and trains at Starfire.

Meanwhile, the city of Tukwila, which owns the property and leases it to Starfire, already has given the green light to convert four old softball fields into four soccer fields as part of a plan for the MLS Seattle team to use Starfire as a training ground.

“The team will start playing in Seattle in two summers time. They had a big press conference on Monday and announced the team name and logo.

“It always used to be the Seattle Sounders and they were talking about changing the name, but you can’t change the name.

“They said it will be different now because it’s an MLS team, but when Beckenbauer and Pele were playing over there it was the Sounders and they are sticking with that. The logo is cool with the Space needle.”

“It is a good choice. I am glad that the team will be called the Seattle Sounders FC,” although pausing for effect before adding the tag for Football Club. “I like the logo as well. If I remember right, the colors are similar to the old ones as well.”

Hahnemann both watched NASL games in the Kingdome and starred for the second coming of the Sounders in 1994.

“Obviously it has a lot of meaning to myself, having played with them from ‘94 to ’96, the three years that started my pro career,” he says. “Without them I am not sure if I would be were I am at today.”

As for the future, perhaps the move to name the MLS club Sounders FC brought Hahnemann’s into greater focus.

“I know a lot of people are really excited to be getting a team in the MLS in Seattle and I am sure that those same people are, like myself, very pleased with what we saw. This may make coming home much easier.”
