hey I hear it is supposed to snow on the peninsula over the weekend.  Will the Narrows bridge be closed?  Will games be rescheduled.  We have to travel at least 30 miles

TRAVEL UPDATE FROM THE STATE
« Reply #8 on: January 31, 2008, 11:15:42 PM »

from the WSYSA website:

URGENT NOTICE UPDATE

Dear Rep's,

Earlier I sent out a notice that we were canceling all cup games between eastern and western Washington teams that required mountain pass travel. Since the email I have learned that some teams had made arrangements to fly or travel around bypassing the mountain passes to their games. This is fine with us if your team chooses to do this. We just want everyone to be safe.

What we are stating to you and asking you relay to your teams is that we do not want any team to attempt to drive across any of the passes this weekend as there is a state of emergency declared due to the heavy snowfall in the Cascades.  I hope this clarifies the matter. If you still have questions please let me know.

So if a Tri-Cities team is scheduled to play in Vancouver (obviously they would travel down the gorge rather than a mountain pass) I would think the game is still on.  I know the gorge can be just as treacherous as any mountain pass and is probably closed more often, but I don't really see the wording "All cup games between Western Washington and Eastern Washington teams for this weekend are cancelled".

Also, technically, a Vancouver team traveling to Spokane wouldn't be going across a Cascade mountain pass either.

Anyone see it differently?

The Narrow Bridge Closed - I dont think so.  I have lived on Peninsula for over 25 years maybe once the bridge has been closed because of high winds.   Called WSP once to see if the bridge was open was told yes but its not very safe - decided to stay at home.  Its great now that we have a bridge in each direction - no backups like before  and not having to add travel time to make sure you get to a game on time.

As for this "Spring Season" it stinks my daughter has had more asthma attacks in the last couple of weeks.  The rain the other night was soooooo cold daughter had the start of hypotherma of course she has all the cold gear she could need, just wont wear it. She said she would now.......  We are now carring a change of clothes in the car.

Why is it that the state only reacts when Seattle area teams are involved?

Last week, I-84 through the George was closed, and a Vancouver boys U16 team (Evergreen United) were told that they were expected to drive over to TriCities via I-90, or they would forfeit the game.  Not sure of the exact driving time, but on clear roads, we are talking in excess of 7 hours.

Evergreen United wound up forfeiting their Commish Cup quarterfinal game hoping that the state would do the right thing.... They didn't, but 96 hours later, games are postponed because I-90 is closed.

Why aren't the Seattle area teams expected to take the southern route along I-84 or drive an hour south and take White Pass (it's open) :?:   Shouldn't the state treat all its' players equally :?:

Anyone know the process for Clark County to be annexed by OYSA :?:

Yeah,

I just heard that our 3Rivers game is still on here in Vancouver, so it's not necessarily all east vs west games are cancelled.

Any thoughts on the logistics of rescheduling?

Many teams will have had two games cancelled this weekend - one in EW, and one in WW.

Will they push back the remainder of the scheduled Elimination-Finals games by one weekend, or will they try and squeeze them in somehow :?:

I think (but certainly do not know for sure) that the elimination stage must all start at the same time.
