The Redmond Reporter posts a story on local guy John Fishbaugher's adventures with the 2008 Sounders...

http://www.pnwlocalnews.com/sports/19983619.html

“Passion, desire and a very strong work ethic,” said Scheibe of Fishbaugher’s strengths as an athlete.?“He is someone that genuinely loves the game and was always looking to improve ... help others around him meet their full potential.?

“(Fishbaugher) is a great role model for what it takes to succeed in any endeavor.”

Fishbaugher is the middle of three brothers that each played soccer for Redmond. The youngest of the bunch, Matt, was a first-team all-Kingco selection as senior, tied a school record for most goals in a season (11), and currently plays midfield for the Western Washington University Vikings.

“It’s the family sport,” he said.

You have to admit, that's a pretty cool photo.

Now a mature, introspective 19-year-old, Besagno can re-claim his pro career while on loan from Real Salt Lake of MLS for 90 days with the Seattle Sounders of the United Soccer Leagues (USL) First Division.

This Sounders' tour of duty, which began on June 11 and runs until Sept. 6, could rescue his stagnant career. The loan could give Besagno the opportunity he needs after playing in just eight matches in three-plus seasons with Real Salt Lake. He hopes removing himself temporarily from Salt Lake's glut at midfielder and defender will spark his career.

"You always want to be, no matter what job, part of the team and part of the success and making a difference," said Besagno, who will see his first USL action for the Sounders (4-5-2) in tonight's 7 p.m. home match against Miami FC at Starfire Sports & Entertainment Complex.

Wow!
Sorry we didn't stay for that game.
The girls sure did get schooled by Pali though. Great defense but their offense could harldy keep it on the other side of the field for more than a minute or two the entire game.

The one that got Seattle through...

Taylor Graham can be seen just above the left shoulder of Thomas (#4). It was Graham who headed the ball that is just about to beat Guzan.

1-1 through OT
PKs
Eyelander gives Sounders a chance, but was flat footed on a few with no attempt . ...can't be easy

one guess who's pk was blocked first for the sounders :)
yeah, sure it was a great take, but c'mon.

young o'brien looked good too.

did you see taylor.......he looked like he was gonna throw up and was to be the 5th kicker but opted to pass on it?  5th take........block

great run Sounders.......thought this was your year in the Cup!

tough to lose in ktfm......that's football

time to focus on home games and finish the season peaking :)

Can't blame Sounders supporters for being a bit nostalgic as we approach these unchartered waters...

Coming to the game tonight?

(Seattle, Wa)- The Seattle Sounders (9-8-9) continue their quest for postseason position against the Miami FC Blues (6-10-10) Saturday, September 6 at Starfire. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. PT.
In the two-week hiatus from league play, Seattle played three friendlies, all victories, beating Seattle University (3-0), University of Washington (1-0) and San Jose Earthquakes of MLS (2-1).

Tuesday’s victory over the Earthquakes was the third this season for the Sounders over MLS competition. Seattle defeated Chivas USA (2-0) on July 1 and the Kansas City Wizards (0-0, 6-5) in penalty kicks July 8, both in US Open Cup competition.

The Sounders last league game came August 24 at Starfire in an exciting 4-3 victory over the Carolina RailHawks. Josh Gardner ended a 281-minute Sounders scoring drought with a first-half goal, then scored the equalizer midway through the second half. Sebastien Le Toux netted the game-winner with his 11th of the season in the 65th minute as Seattle rallied twice to pull out the win despite a hat trick from RailHawks forward Hamed Diallo. Gardner’s two goals earned him USL-1 Team of the Week honors.

Seattle looks to ride the momentum against Miami as the two sides face off for the third and final time this season. The previous two meetings were defensive battles, both ending in 0-0 draws. The last match played on June 20 at Starfire, resulted at the time in the Blues sixth straight shutout; 590 minutes without allowing a single goal.

Miami has 13 clean sheets and forward Alex Afonso leads the USL-1 in points and goals with 32 and 14 respectively, but the club has just six wins this season. Last week, Miami and Minnesota faced off in back-to-back contests with the Thunder winning 2-1 on Friday, and drawing 1-1 on Sunday. Miami lost to the Portland Timbers 4-0 Thursday at PGE Park and now travel north to Seattle on Saturday. The Blues are currently in tenth place with 28 points.

PLAYOFF OUTLOOK
The Sounders are in sole position of fifth place in USL-1 with 36 points just one point back of the Charleston Battery and Rochester Rhinos, who are tied for third. Puerto Rico (46 points) and Vancouver (46) are tied for first. Montreal climbed to sixth (34 points) with three straight wins; two over Atlanta (currently in seventh place with 32 points) and one over Carolina (last place with 27 points). The remaining four games are at Starfire against: Miami (September 6), Montreal (September 10), Atlanta (September 13) and Vancouver (September 20).

TICKETS
Don’t miss your chance to see the Sounders final run in their storied history starting this Saturday at Starfire against the Miami FC Blues. Tickets for the remaining four games of the regular season, including the final match and Cascadia Cup deciding fixture against the rival to the north, Vancouver Whitecaps Saturday, September 20 are available

Thank you Seattle Soundes, for great soccer over the years and all the memories you've given our city and region!

and........Matty Bishop........I wish that guy was calling matches for comcast the last couple of seasons.  He's awesome, more intelligent, and far more passionate in his calls.

SOUNDERS ROCK!  We'll miss you, and you'll never truly be gone!

Seattle Sounders Farewell Game!

The USL Seattle Sounders, keeping up the tradition, will play the All Nations Cup 2008 Champions Bosnia. Sounders stars such as Leighton O'Brien, Kevin Sakuda, and Hugo Alcaraz will be joined by former players such as Viet Nguyen and Andrew Gregor. Already disbanded, the Sounders will get together one last time, thanks to the efforts of owner Adrian Hanauer and coach Brian Schmetzer, to support Sister Communities newest project:

All Nations Cup School of Soccer for Underserved Children

The majority of the foreign children that come to this country don’t have a chance to play soccer because they lack the funds to participate in a sport that in the US is very expensive.

That’s exactly where our school comes in. We provide high-level soccer training classes to excluded children and for us diversity means everybody, from the low-income white American child to refugee children, to the incarcerated youth.

We have two very distinctive goals in mind:

Develop social skills and integrate children in society. We work on making them respect themselves and their cultural background. The so damaging looser/winner concept is excluded. Although competitiveness is developed children learn to work together and try to improve by having themselves as a parameter.

The second goal is to give these children a real chance to progress in soccer if they have the talent and desire. Our coaches are trained in a highly effective method and are all soccer players themselves. Children identified as having the talent and desire to go further receive special attention towards going to college and playing professional if it’s within their reach.

We have a program running in South Everett; one with the Muckleshoot Tribe, being extended to several tribes soon; one starting in Tukwila; a program starting for incarcerated youth and we’re starting one for African-American children.

Through soccer these children get integrated into American society as contributors, since we work on making them proud of who they are and of their culturally rich background. They learn respect for the other and their differences. We don’t work based on the paternalistic vision of poor little kids. They’re though that before being liked they have to be respected as equals to everybody. And that respect, as everything in life, should be a two-way road.

Seattle Sounders vs. ANC Bosnia Detailed Schedule:

November 14th, Friday        7:30 pm
Starfire Soccer Complex

Admission is $10
Children 12 and under are admitted FREE

Sister Communities Info.

Sister Communities is a 501c3 registered, true non-profit organization founded in 2003. Sister Communities fosters relationships amongst the diverse communities in our region.  We strive to connect people across the borders, both real and imagined that separate communities from one another.

We strives to bring together the richness that so many ethnic, cultural and religious communities have to offer in Seattle.  Sister Communities unites communities in celebration of our common humanity.

We organize All Nations Cup. The event celebrates the global Puget Sound community through a soccer tournament played by over 40 local teams representing their homelands. 17 days of the most important tournament of the Northwest. The tournament is surrounded by an international festival unlike any other in the northwest with food, music, art, dance and entertainment from around the world. The project strengthens community leadership, fosters cultural expression, and creates connection between communities.

We are a secular, non-partisan and probably the most inclusive organization in the Northwest.
