80 kid flicks
« on: February 09, 2008, 10:27:00 PM »

Today I was told Pretty in Pink was old
fashioned by my dd. LOL I love all the related John Hughes films. Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller... Uncle Buck... 16 Candles Also I loved  Lucas, Adventures in Babysitting, Gooonies, Stand by Me. All John Cusack movies -Say Anything etc Fast Times was ok
Stand and Deliever (sp) Bad News Bears the original Breaking Away
Karate Kid

Now we have crass kid movies like American Pie, Super Bad.  They are funny, but they are not the same as the 80 films -- I guess Im old as these relics films lol.

Almost Famous and Clueless are
pretty good films as well and Bugsy Malone, The other young Jodie Foster film, War Games, Paper Moon, The young Diane Lane film with Sir Oliver (sp) any Amanda Bynes film, Cheaper by the Dozen

Any dinosaurs 2 cents

I was 14 before I gave up on the idea I was going to marry Tatum O'Neil.  It was at that point that I decided that would not happen and then set my sites on Kristy McNichol.  Needless to say when Little Darlings can out It got my attention

Oh the good old days! No one mentioned Meatballs. yes we are old. Shortly after my dd went nuts for High School Musical I though she needed to see the original so we had the mother daughter bonding night of watching Grease! I loved that movie movie when it came out and I knew all the songs and everything. When I watched it with my dd I was shocked- I mean Rizo was knocked up and the whole condom scene. Times have changed. I too loved all those Hughes movies and my kid has seen most of them. My hubby was watching Fast times the other day  dd will have to wait to see that one. All parents need to listen to Bowling for Soup 1985  and watch the video... or for more fun volvo driving soccer mom by everclear...

Ferris Bueller was my favorite, obviously.

I could quote that movie all day long.  Hardly a day goes by when I don't harass my co-workers with one of these gems:

"I did not achieve this position in life by having some snot-nosed punk leave my cheese out in the wind."

"Between grief and nothing... I'll take grief."

"I don't trust this kid any further than I can throw him."

"Nine times."

"Wake up and smell the coffee, Mrs. Bueller. It's a fool's paradise. He is just leading you down the primrose path."

"Well, I should say you DO owe me an apology, Rooney! You just mind your P's and Q's, buster, and remember who you're dealing with!  Call me SIR goddam it!"

I loved that movie so much...especially the Abe Froman scenes...I also enjoyed how Ferris just missed getting caught so many times.  My brother and some of my friends called me Ferris because of that...

"So that's how it is with their family..."

Two favorite movies form the 80's .. the lines from these movies are ageless (at least I think so)  :)

Fletch...
"Can I borrow your towel for a sec? My car just hit a water buffalo."
Do you own rubber gloves? --- "I rent 'em. I have a lease with an option to buy".
"One of those manure spreaders jackknifed on the Santa Ana. Godawful mess. You should see my shoes"
"Well, there we're in kind of a grey area.---  How grey? -- Charcoal."

Caddyshack...
"Oh, it looks good on you though"
"You will get nothing and like it"
"Cinderella story. Outta nowhere. A former greenskeeper, now, about to become the Masters champion
"Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.
"Just be the ball, be the ball, be the ball."
"Pool and a pond... Pond be good for you."

Not a girlie movie... hysterical movie. The battle of "wits" over the poison is one the greatest scenes ever.
"You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!

Loved all the John Hughes movies.  My kids have even liked them.

What about "Say Anything" or "The Sure Thing"?  Loved John Cusack in those.

Someone mentioned "The Princess Bride".  Great movie.

What about "Dirty Dancing" or "Flashdance"?

Oh I have great one - "E.T."  Oh Dang, I see someone mentioned that one already.
