How crazy are CP'S???
« on: February 26, 2008, 12:16:24 AM »

How far would you go for your DD/DS~

Would you give up family vacations for practices/tourneys?
Would you over ride your kid's decision to play on their team next season for another?
Would you drive over an hour away + to put them on a "better" team/coaching?
Would you allow your household to have soccer debt?
etc, etc, etc, etc...you add in your favorite phrase.

How much is too much? Are we all CP's in some sort of way or do those CP's make all the other parents look bad?

Making tourneys in to family vacations is cheating
However, I have done the same
I guess I would like to see how CRAZY others are. I have been told I reign the CP, but I seen some worse then me....trying to dig those 'worse' one's up.
C'mon, you know you are out there.

Divulge your ONE CP moment that you have done for your DD/DS.

These DKs of ours are only young once so if we have to sacrifice for their benefit, so be it. I myself love watching my kid and his mates play. The camaraderie of a good team, coach  and parents is great to be a part of. We have been fortunate to make many great friends because of soccer. Our life is better because of it. Despite the fact that Bellingham in August is NOT the same as Italy or Spain !!

How far would you go for your DD/DS~

Would you give up family vacations for practices/tourneys? What's a family vacation that isn't connected to a tournament?

Would you over ride your kid's decision to play on their team next season for another? No, but we have been very fortunate with the  team/coach/club DKs have already.

Would you drive over an hour away + to put them on a "better" team/coaching? Not sure on this one - that's a lot of gas and time.

Would you allow your household to have soccer debt?  The sports budget is our second largest bill, right behind the mortgage.  No new wheels for me this year - hey, that seems just wrong, why did ya have to make me think about that!!

They are only young once and you can't take it ($) with you

Would you give up family vacations for practices/tourneys? What's a family vacation that isn't connected to a tournament? Yup, between the two DD's we haven't missed a tournament in 7 years. All vacations have either been planned around soccer tournaments or have been directly after. This summer will be the first time. Only because youngest is going to Denmark and Sweden to play soccer.

Would you over ride your kid's decision to play on their team next season for another? No, but we have been very fortunate with the  team/coach/club DKs have already. Did this once. Moved the oldest to a better team at U14. District level to a P2. Needed to be done.
Would you drive over an hour away + to put them on a "better" team/coaching? Not sure on this one - that's a lot of gas and time. We drove 45 minutes one way for four years. Only becuase we lived 13 miles from the southern entrance to Mt Rainier Natnl Park. In 2003 bought a brand new Subaru Outback. We put 30,000 on it the first year between the darling wife's work and soccer. We have since moved much closer :D

Would you allow your household to have soccer debt?  The sports budget is our second largest bill, right behind the mortgage.  No new wheels for me this year - hey, that seems just wrong, why did ya have to make me think about that!! Right there with you on this one Glorybound

Is anyone willing to share what their yearly family soccer budget is? Ball park figures ofcourse. Not trying to see who has the most money...just how muy loco we really are.

They are only young once and you can't take it ($) with you
I get sick of the political side of this sport. Especially this time of year...but my girls really do love the sport and I don't regret a single dollar spent or the amount of time we've devoted to it. My girls are healthy and have made some wonderful friends they never would have made without it. So have my wife and I.

I think if you ask how much you spend each year people will become more depressed

I would have to sit and think about that one longer. I do know each year it keeps going up as the DK's get older -- older teams do more and travel further. Though I did get wind of Xfire B U-12's next year are traveling outside the country, yikes!

When non-soccer parents tell me that we are crazy (travel, expense and such) I tell them we are building memories, creating healthy habits for life, learning responsibility, strong bonds of friendship, staying competitive, blah, blah, blah, blah.

It sounds like we are all a little crazy then...we all should wear our crowns at the games. We can start a "cult"

Well, as long as you're getting depressed about the money, consider, that at least for our club, and I assume all of them--we are now headed into a 15 month season with the changes in the State Cup schedule.  SO, while the YEARLY fee is staying the same, we now have to add more months of payments.  And in our club that is only the club fees, we then add the team fees on top of that.

BUT--I do it gladly for my DD who loves playing and has turned me into an official "soccer mom", which I swore I'd never be.

Would you give up family vacations for practices/tourneys? Yes, can't afford both, tourneys become vacations
Would you over ride your kid's decision to play on their team next season for another? I think it should really be her decision, but strongly urging her in a certain direction is not out of the question
Would you drive over an hour away + to put them on a "better" team/coaching? Doubt it, but never say never
Would you allow your household to have soccer debt? Don't think we are in soccer debt, but we won't be retiring anytime soon - lol
etc, etc, etc, etc...you add in your favorite phrase.

How much is too much? Are we all CP's in some sort of way or do those CP's make all the other parents look bad?

when it's raining out do you allow your player to juggle in the house so they can get some extra touches????

Better yet, how many soccer balls are "in" your home????  Do you allow 1 v 1 training in the hallways, practice moves around the kitchen???

My front door has been used as a wall to bounce the ball off of. I had to take down the family portraits so they wouldn't get broke.
none IN the house right now. They are all sitting in the goal in the yard

we have enough black rubber pellets in our house, now all we need is a little turf to go with it.

I was just thinking this morning about how disgusting the cost to play this sport is but on the other hand, I'd rather pay now, keep the kids active than pay for something they could get caught up doing if they weren't involved in sports.  Not that it still cant happen but it does keep them busy.

Would never drive an hour for practices, probably not even 30 min.
Insane!

Wouldn't miss out on fam vacation, just arrange it around the soccer stuff.

Maybe we can go in together and save some dough on turf by ordering wholesale?????  I'm sure once a few dd's got the turf half the county would be wanting turf rooms.
