How far would you go for your DD/DS~

Would you give up family vacations for practices/tourneys? What is a vacation? The kids and I  did go to Canada for a few days after Rimland. Does that count?
Would you over ride your kid's decision to play on their team next season for another? Nope. Her choice.
Would you drive over an hour away + to put them on a "better" team/coaching? Never
Would you allow your household to have soccer debt? No.
etc, etc, etc, etc...you add in your favorite phrase.

How much is too much? Are we all CP's in some sort of way or do those CP's make all the other parents look bad?

Usually there is a soccer ball in each room and many soccer moves have been demonstrated in the kitchen  . Lots of mini soccer games in the hallways but DD tries to use a beachball for juggling and such. ;)

For the last two years, I only  asked  for a vac-broom for Xmas because them turf dots are everywhere. Not because off DD tho but cuz the ref in the house :P  . Finally got one this year  :D .

Hi all (FNG here)-

I'm with ya on the hallway soccer..its the best.
Also, chipping contests over the hamper.

We had enough balls around from all of the summer camps, we boxed them up to send to kids in Kenya.

And the bright side to last winter's basement flood was that we could replace the carpet with...new turf. :D

Boo to the driving long ways for practice, though.

Welcome new guy!!!  love the turf idea.  BTW, there's a reason our home has no photos on the walls; to many targets by errant balls.

Would you drive over an hour away + to put them on a "better" team/coaching?  we thought we were driving 20 minutes but that ended up only to work on Saturdays.....for practice we leave 45-60 minutes early pending on field location just because of work traffic
Would you allow your household to have soccer debt?  I've heard there are people who are working just for the soccer money so the kids can play - wish that was the case at my house!!  I hate debt!!!  It's hard to be frugal and then add up the soccer costs - it's almost hypocritical.......

etc, etc, etc, etc...you add in your favorite phrase.........

when it's raining out do you allow your player to juggle in the house so they can get some extra touches????

Better yet, how many soccer balls are "in" your home????  Do you allow 1 v 1 training in the hallways, practice moves around the kitchen???[/quote

DK's use to have an indoor arena in front room to home, no more though, they cry over it now not having it.
They now practice inside all over home. Have lost many items on wall, balls bouncing on to tables, etc, etc.
Rain or shine, DK's usually go outside. However, cranky neighbor has made it hard now(what is wrong with these people, geez)!

I don't want to count how many balls are in our home now. I know TOO MANY! When I begin finding them in every room (including the bathroom) I know we need to purge...have a TON outside, including in front yard/porch and I know I have some in the rig (I can hear them flying back and forth each time I take a turn.
Best 1v1's in our house is between the dog! Currently the dog is
about 5000 - 2

we have enough black rubber pellets in our house, now all we need is a little turf to go with it.

I was just thinking this morning about how disgusting the cost to play this sport is but on the other hand, I'd rather pay now, keep the kids active than pay for something they could get caught up doing if they weren't involved in sports.  Not that it still cant happen but it does keep them busy.
Would never drive an hour for practices, probably not even 30 min.
Insane!

Wouldn't miss out on fam vacation, just arrange it around the soccer stuff.

Tyler is graduating this year from HS. Hes been in soccer since he was 5. NEVER got into trouble once! Good grades, nice kid.... I truly believe that his focus and love for the game has kept him on the right path! ;)  That along with good parenting.
It has been worth every penny!

Soccer Channel?
« Reply #36 on: February 26, 2008, 10:04:24 PM »

- Does FSC run more hours than any other channel?
- Is your DVR full of soccer games?
- Do you watch FFF?

Answers to prev Q's:
[Soccer vacations are the only sane way to do it. There is only so much time in a year! Would not drive 1hr for soccer practices. Not in debt, but, as you all know ... it's not cheap. Have too many soccer balls in the house including futsal. We have rules so the house does not sustain damage ... there are things to work on that don't require lofted balls. We try to contain the black stuff in the garage, but, it ocassionally gets through.]

My own Q's:
[Soccer vs Non-soccer runs over 2:1. DVR is full. So is the DVR upstairs and the MCE harddrive. Yes we do watch FFF most Tuesdays. And, we still watch CL games, even, some on UEFA.com! Luckily we are all soccer crazy!]

When World Cup hits, house goes NUTTS! Have to watch live, set alarm and don't get sleep for months.
and that is just for World Cup....

& on the rubber pellets from indoor -- I have given up vacuuming my rig, and shoe bucket in house. The one thing I hate about those stupid pellets is picking them off the socks. It is like super glue with those things

Ssshhhh !

First, 'tis certainly fewer than 500.
Second, all the CPs and their soccer-playing offspring will come in and request a WPS discount on their Slurpees !

How far would you go for your DD/DS~

Would you give up family vacations for practices/tourneys?
Err, I took my wife to a WC Qualifier on for our honeymoon.  And our only other two "away from the kids" getaways were also soccer related.  Over the past 20 years, though, I have taken the family on a total of two non-soccer related vacations.  Both were camping trips.

Would you over ride your kid's decision to play on their team next season for another?
Yes.  Did this once, convinced the kid twice to make the right decision in regard to team selection, and refused twice more to let a kid move to a team that was appropriate (one time cost, one time coach)   Out of four kids, one ODP, another P-1, another District Select, last (FINAL!!!!!) a U-12 developmental player.
Would you drive over an hour away + to put them on a "better" team/coaching?
Like we had a choice!?!?!   Of course I do.   87 miles each way to the practice field.   That is for the second son.  of course, in Eastern Washington, at times our options are more limited.
Would you allow your household to have soccer debt? Err, just because we attended 11 soccer tournaments in various states this last summer (sorry, was not able to attend every one and had to send kids with others a time or two!) and defered payng our property taxes until a future time, does not mean that we have "soccer debt".   And I resent the implication that since our household spent seven times more on soccer footwear than on all other footware for the entire family, that we are spending too much on soccer.  Further, the shed that we have bought to hold all the soccer equipment is a capital expense that is a real value addition to the property, and should not be viewed as a soccer expense.  (except by our accountant and the IRS).
All the broken windows in the house from soccer balls and bodies flying are just normal wear and tear, not a soccer expense.
etc, etc, etc, etc...you add in your favorite phrase.

How much is too much?  IF YOU HAVE TO ASK YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO BE PART OF CROSSFIRE Are we all CP's in some sort of way or do those CP's make all the other parents look bad?

IF WE AVOID LOOKING AT HOW MUCH WE EXPEND - TIME, MONEY, EMOTION, EFFORT, OPPORTUNITY COSTS, ETC. - on youth soccer, then we can still pretend that we are sane.[/b]

this is one of the reasons I love soccer! It gets us all out to see our great state. I would have never thought to go to Yakima or Spokane just because..... no family there, no real reason to go.
I've seen some great places now thanks to soccer
