I have not heard a positive comment about the switch to spring from ANY GU18 or GU19 player.  none, nada, zilch.  Universally hated it.  And this coming from girls who were still playing high school on Saturday November 17th, if you know what I mean.

The girls from Richland HS prefer the switch, despite the inconveniences.   What they do not like is the state cup fiasco.

Let's make sure that we do not lump in state cup with playing leage in the spring.  It can be handled differently.

...  Remember, more than 16% of the entire WSYSA player base is from Eastern Washington...

All the rest was tongue in cheek, right?
We have 6% just in our association...

Err, no, it was not tongue in cheek.
Do the math.  3 out of 36 to 44 players is definitely not 16%.  Thre out of an entire age group, boys and girls, was the BEST that the state could come up with.  They did not want to talk about the age groups where Eastern Washington has no players involved in ODP.  Underrepresentation, by design, is a discrimination problem that is institutionalized by the WYS in ODP.

Of course, the players, teams and families have all lost confidence in the ODP system by now.   It is thouroughly discredited and viewed as corrupt.  Ergo, the talented players who might consider it or might be considered by it, go elsewhere.  So the mismanagement of ODP has created a self fullfilling prophecy of bias.   And that is about the best face anyone can put onto it, the best excuse that WYS can trot out.

Another reason that 16+% is significant, is that the loss of such a significant portion of the WYS population base would have a negative impact on sponsorship.

Now, Lester, what is significant about your association having 6% of the state player base?

For what it is worth, District Six has already decided to go with a 10 game schedule for the fall.

Oh, sorry.  I didn't realize that you were only equating it to the number of players in ODP.
I thought you were talking about more general things like moving the season to the winter, travel expenses, getting over the pass, field conditions, LPT in Tri-cities, and such.   My bad.
I didn't think anyone could think that 16% is a significant number to make allowances for compared to the 84% that aren't in eastern Washington.  Where I live, we have more than 30% of the WYS population within a 40 minute drive to the surrounding associations, maybe, 50% are that close; surely, 70% within 100 miles of us.

Our association's significance for ODP representation is, well, we reverse engineer it.  Only WPFC has ODP players... so, if you make the ODP team you can come here and play.  Other than the ones they bring in, I think our resident 6% has 0% in ODP, although there might be one or two, maybe more on the boys side.   It never occurred to me that was the State's fault, I thought it was just our unique association rules that held our kids back.

This is a strange conversation.

So would you rather the girls play 10 games or 14 games?

Do you want the boys reduced to 10 games for equality sake?

Sorry to not really understand - I have sons so I realize I am not familuar with the girls situation.  Im curious about it though.

My older son is playing high schoool ball.  His select team went to the State Cup finals.  That game played in mid-Feb.  A week later, HS ball started - maybe three weeks break from the State Cup final to Select tryouts.  HS ball was/is still going on and the boys select teams are practicing, playing friendlies.

So what gives with the situation about the girls playing HS ball while select is going on?  The only issue I think I can see is a conflict on which games to participate in if in fact select games and HS games colide in schedules.

If it's just that select and HS overlap, we can see that for both the boys and girls.

View from a 15 yr old...this is what she has said over the last few months...
The season is too long (new)
I am glad I didn't have to play both teams in the fall - last year was too tiring (playing HS and club) I didn't enjoy either.
Having 9 (cyl) games is gay.
Having Sate Cup straight after season play is gay.
LPT'S in the Tri-Cities is fun but it was too hot in June last year - can't we go somewhere different but fun?
Players got into bad habits at HS soccer - it took a while to get us out of it.
I lost touch with my team for a bit (club)

As you can see fors and againsts...
