This is an interesting conversation.
I am assuming the coaching fees each player is asked to pay goes toward the DOC salary?
The only reason I ask - my boys are playing for two different clubs.
The older, has no monthly coaching fees. I have a feeling the director's salary was worked into the higher club registration fee we paid this year. I don't mind that, just would like to know it upfront.
The younger is asked to pay about $100 per month and I think that goes toward the full time trainer. Another parent and me worked the figures:
roster of say 16 = $1600 per month per team
club of say 7 teams (low ballin) = $11,200 per month
10 month season = $112,000.00 in coaching fees
Plenty o'money. More than likely several folks get a cut of this.
So, for that money, what measures investment worth for that initial $100 per month?
Caliber of training?
Cool equipment?
Playing time vs bench time?
Player confidence, by whose standards?
Winning team or just good soccer?
How much Coach/trainer face time does my kid get?
How many teams take up the coach/trainer's time?
So a few questions come to mind in addition to the ones above -
What type of customer service is involved?
Do I get my money back if I/the kid doesn’t like what happens?
What's the guarantee?
Can I get a background check?
What are the membership rules that I just bought into?
So right now, one boy has monthly coaching fees the other boy does not. So far, the fee-less team has a great record, the team plays really well together, and the parents are given a break with the fees. Awesome, I say.
I am still giving some time for the more spendy boy to see what difference, if any, paying for coaching offers. I don't care for the coaching fees as I think talent is earned not purchased. In earning talent I can, however, understand supporting an excellent coach/trainer if coaching is the coach's livelihood and that coach is not stretched too thin.
