Experienced (old) coach looking for a few potential players (two arms and legs) for a stirring experience (counseling available).

We are putting together a GU-08 team in the North end of Tacoma. Must be born after 8/1 2000.

Some one told me the team name is “Little Green Apples”,   I may need the counseling

84 views and no a PM or a response. I guess that all the GU-08's are already playing or don't want to.

Victory, that was pretty funny.
Dragon, I am a little perplexed.
Players are put on a list by their parents, kids say they want to play.
Somehow the idea of going to practice seems to be a bit alien to them.
I was looking to a new group of kids who were ready to start down the path to someday become soccer players.
It's always pretty cool for me to meet the newest kids and get them hooked to a sport.
I am faced with the idea that these kids may have other interests that compete with the idea of soccer practice. I am completely aware that as GU-08 they are young, however......
Not to be too crude about it, but that's not going to get me hooked on these kids and won't keep me around for as long as I might like.

Might be a nice way of saying I am not getting a warm fuzzy feeling to me little apples, yet.

I am get profoundly disappointed in thinking that way. Not my style.

Have a heart to heart with the parents.  Also use peer presure to get the players who show to get the others there.

I may suck at a higher level soccer coach but I was pretty good at this age level.  Got to make it real fun so the ones there take the message back to the others.
Ideas I used
"Highlight Reel"  Girl get easy cross that they kick in with flair.  3 parents have papers with 1-10 on them and are your judges.  Winner get cool reward.  Brooke helped me a few years ago get a bunch of Sounders to sign a $5 ball.  Would of thought the winner won the lottery.
Coach for the day Pick players who put in effort to "coach the next practice.  As asst coach you still get what you want done but it is more fun.
Player Vs parent scrimmages.

I know select coaches are thinking these ideas are dumb but my team won president cup at U-11 and is still intact playing P-2 now at U-15.

Little English #3 would have given it a shot...but big sis is helping our with coaching plus two team mates.  The little girls love the big girls - maybe recruit some HS kids looking for community service hours :!:

Parents of little U-8 players may not know to look on this site unless they have older children who already play soccer.  My DD has been playing soccer for years and I didn't know about forums like this until a few years ago.

2 of Big Red's players coached a mini-soccer camp for a GU8 team this week.  Other than one who wanted to pick berries, the girls learned a lot.  Parent's were e-mailing saying how much their daughter enjoyed soccer now.  The little girls just loved the "big" girls coaching them.  It also really helped our real coach who does not know soccer at all.  Now he has the basics for warm ups, passing drills, positions, etc.
Funny thing was, they liked conditioning with a training ladder the best!
