QUESTION & ANSWERS FROM THE PREZ!!!
Last week D forwarded a question to the President Doug. Here is the question and his response
I was at Starfire today and saw a Hummer. It had WSYSA all over it as well as some other sponsors. So who paid for it and who does it belong to?
Did WSYSA funds go to that? Did sponsors like Adidas donate $ towards that ... if so... wouldnt those funds be better spent on Scholarships???
Just wondering where the cash came from and who is driving it?[/size]
Hi Dragon & WPS,
Thanks for the question.
The H3 Hummer was paid for by one of our sponsors, George Gee Dealerships. We use the vehicle for promoting Washington Youth Soccer, whether it be at Starfire or at another event. We try to place the H3 at youth soccer tournaments, adult soccer tournaments, as well as community events. While the vehicle is parked and manned, we will pass out soccer items that further helps us promote Washington Youth Soccer. We have found that the vehicle helps us to promote us to the youth community, both for those that do not play soccer yet, as well as those that are currently in our system. In the effort to reach out and market our programs, we utilize this vehicle to also support our other sponsors, such as Adidas, Fred Meyer, Sounders FC, and others. The vehicle is driven by various members of our office staff and board of directors as well as community volunteers that assist Washington Youth Soccer in our programs.
In regards to our scholarships, we had a huge success with the number of applications that were received. We were happy to say that we gave out $19,000 to 14 recipients, 2 from each of our 7 districts in the State. We plan on providing a scholarship program for 2009 as well.
Thank you,
Doug Andreassen
President
Washington Youth Soccer
Thanks Doug

Eastside 96 Red – Next is the PDL Season – Harbor is the First game. Should be on top at the end of the Season.
NWN’s- Lost at the Rimland – HMMM was some of the team members missing?
Glory – Playing in the Chinook Cup this weekend, First up, Westsound. Last chance to impress the DTR before Fall PDL
Westsound – Playing in the Chinook Cup and then on to Starfire Labor day. Let’s win one of these Tournament or they could be pushed down in the DTR
TIER 2 – (
Loosing/Holding Ground

)
WPFC Black – Hey they finally listened to the DTR and Won a Tournament – Strong showing Girls. Good Job. Could move up in the next DTR.
ECFC – SATISFACTORY showing at Rimland but lost to WPFC in the Finals.
Xfire Black – Will be attending the Rampage Pre Season Classic, Moorpark, CA- Let see if they’re still in DTR after this weekend.
Harbor FC- Lost at the Rimland – I keep saying that!!!!!!! Harbor has issues scoring; it's due to their midfield not being aggressive enough and getting the ball up front. Keeper work keeps them in games.
TIER 3 –
Strong appearances, but not enough to move up in the DTR :'(

)
CB United- 2008 Redmond Crossfire Select Cup ~ Tournament Champions - Chinook cup is next and there is some tough competition.
Timbers – Will be joining the rest of the Teams at the Chinook Cup . Lets take some of top team down.
Reign – Lost to WPFC in the Semi -Finals at the Rimland, but beat WPFC in the first game.
Eagles – Playing in the Sea-Tac Cup, Top Home Team should win it all. If not it will be a big let down for the DTR.
Synergy FC – Lost in the Bigfoot Semi-finals to Sun City. Game was decided by PK’s. Tough Loss – Fall Season is next and possible appearance in the PSPL at Starfire. Would of liked to seen them at the Chinook Cup with the other Teams
FC Crush- LOST in the Extreme Finals to unknown Team (River City Rain) – OUCH!! Let’s come back and win the next game.
Eastside White – Is it Time to leave the DTR? Poor showing at the Rimland, but the girls played tough. It might be time to say good-bye the DTR. Who should take their spot? (Sun City, Whatcom, River City Rain)
COLOR ME GREEN: TALES FROM A NOVICE SOCCER MOM!!!Entry #4 - “A Soccer History”
Looking back and remembering life’s events seems to be one of the biggest pastimes we Americans cherish – that along with the strange but highly popular desire for a legacy – no not the soccer club, but some great accomplishment handed down for future generations to be in awe of. Have you asked or been asked: what legacy will you leave behind? To hear a review of my not yet completed legacy from the not yet grown soccer players I have been blessed to call my children, it would be that I made life miserable to some extent via: chores to stay organized (ah ha, referencing Entry #2 maintaining that soccer bag!), earning good grades (no bench sitting for you!), achieving excellent hygiene (dude you stink, go meet with a bottle of shampoo), and to practice what should be close to be perfect (a.k.a., soccer). Not a bad start to my personal legacy even if my children are not yet in awe of me, shoot, they may never be! That word " legacy" is thrown around so much these days it reminds me of the over abundant use of the word "gravitas" during a more recent presidential election. I’ve got some gravitas for you about legacies - make sure to leave one behind for the rest of us to benefit from and while doing so, try to find some joy or at least some humor in what you see from previous legacies.
Last week, while waiting for my younger son’s practice to end I witnessed a rather moving scene that would probably sell inspirational posters – I wished I had my camera with me. A group of ten or so boys with their trainer (them wearing dark red) and his half-pint son (who was wearing green); all of them jogging together in a group, their backs facing me, the trainer on the outside of the group and the little boy smack dab in the middle. Three generations of soccer players: one with a lifetime of soccer experience behind him, several trying to embark on greatness of some sort, and one wee little fella with a ton of potential. At that moment, it seemed to me that legacies abound with memories in the making. Taking note of this quaint picture forming before me on the pitch, it seemed to me that anyone connected in some way to the soccer industry has or is in touch with a soccer history. So, I wondered just how much interesting history we have surrounding us that we never explore. In an age when clubs are directed by retired professional players, teams are coached by college greatness from long ago, and when parents can tell soccer stories from when they were kids – I’d say it is high time we take a moment to find out about those histories, no not read a resume, but the events that made the resume possible. We will probably be very surprised to find out about the history that surrounds us. Each time you set foot on a field, you may find the people who surround you are rich with soccer history. Not too long ago, I learned that the trainer I mentioned above played in Scotland; a parent from my older son’s previous team played for Nigeria during his college days; and if my boys would ask, they’d hear about my husband’s days of playing soccer in Iceland and my time spent as a cheerleader for soccer on the East Coast. What stories could you share with your kids that are just waiting to be told? I’m sure we all have worthwhile soccer related stories to tell, so sometime this week I encourage you to look back, remember and participate in that cherished American pastime of sharing history. Don’t allow our nearby soccer veterans to escape this world without sharing those great tales of marvelous memories and events! History may be a long time in making but it always seems so short in retelling!
Through posting, let other Pulse readers know about the history you have already discovered, or something you’ve learned this week. 'Til next time when we explore the art of scoring goals this ex-soccer cheerleader is signing off!

"A view from the Mini-Van"PARENTS..... UGH!
.. When are you going to remember the game is about your kids, others kids and just KIDS!!!! Not your damn ego's!!!!!!
Let them have fun, play hard and enjoy it. Twice this weekend I saw parents ripping into their own kids after the games, telling them they were an embarrasment to the game, that they are not going to come watch them anymore if they play like that :'( How sad!!!!
I also observed them ripping into other players on the same team and the other team. I know we talk about this alot, but it is just so sad and frustrating that parents can't let the kids play without interferring!!!!

"VIEW FROM BEHIND THE WHISTLE" Myths of the Game and other Nonsense
Off a corner, player A touches the ball, but doesn't really play it; player B from the same team then comes over as if he's going to take the corner and then actually dribbles it to the goal. I've seen some funny decisions as a result: ref blows whistle because play is illegal; player B goes over and actually handles ball because he doesn't realize player A has put ball in play. Player A and B respond correctly but player from other team knows play and actually beats B to the ball and dribbles off with it! Yesterday I saw the play and another parent who said he was a ref said play should be ruled illegal because player A hadn't made a 'kicking motion' to put the ball in play (center actually allowed play to continue). So what's your understanding of this rule?
The play is not illegal, but it is fraught with opportunities for mistakes by players and referees.
When attempting deceptive plays, teams must be certain they follow the letter of the Laws. Even then, they run the risk that their planned deception will also deceive the referees, who then spoil the tactical advantage by blowing for a double touch infringement.
This play hinges on two critical things:
- Properly putting the ball into play
- The Referee and AR applying the same standard and judgment of when the ball is in play.
At a corner kick (or any free kick), The ball is in play when it is kicked and moves (Law 13). This cannot be a "touch" or a rolling of the ball with the foot that is similar to what a player would do when adjusting/placing the ball to prepare for the kick.
The USSF ATR tells us that "kicked" means with the foot in a kicking motion and "moves" means the ball moves from here to there (not just quivers or shakes). However, the judgment of whether the ball has been kicked and moves is ultimately that of the officials in that match. This makes it risky for a team that employs this tactic if they do not make it clear to the officials that the ball has been "kicked and moved."
If the referee does not consider player A’s touch to have put the ball into play, then when player B starts dribbling, that player is guilty of a double touch infringement.
Sometimes the players execute the mechanics of the play correctly, but the play deceives one of the referees. One of the referees does not see the first kick and incorrectly flags or whistles an infringement.
Smart players planning deceptive plays will make sure they execute to the letter of the Laws and will check with the referee on any elements left to his/her judgment, e.g. "what is your standard for putting the ball into play?"
THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO MMMMMMMMMMMM.........The Rumor Mill** DOS willing to take on boys teams, but not willing to give up name! (mmmm the Royals did)
** A little superstar faces a serious illness and pushes on
** A "virtual unknown" Super Stud of a player, who has been playing up 2 years, is looking to come to age!!
"My 2 cents worth...The Posters Voice!"Dragon, the state really dropped the ball at this age group. There are 4 teams who played there heart out this last 2 weeks who are left for the 2 final spots. Three west and a East of the mountain team. We were told both teams have to agree to a day to play. The team we will be playing wants to play mid week at there home practice field. They have girls who will be leaving next weekend. Now we have girls who left today and will be back for a weekend game. See where this is going if the state said TBD game will be played on say Sun the 24th time and field will TBD depending on who made it to the game find a field close to both teams. If game does not happen this coming weekend what then high school tryouts are the 25th for all high school teams.
So the girls have the stress of High school try-outs ,2 a day practices and playing a game they have worked for all summer to be played during high school soccer thats why the season was moved to spring in the first place. The state should say they really screwed up and they are going to have a 10 team p-3 season so its fair for all the 4 teams. Now you would only have 6-teams for p-4 there are 4 teams who played there last game and would of been atleast p-4 had they won. The state says it your lucky day puts the four teams in a hat and draws 2 lucky teams out for the last p-4 spots just a thought maybe put this out on WPS and maybe someone has a fair way of getting this done.
LETTER'S TO THE MAN-RUG!
"oldie but goodie" time
Dear Wolverine, I have this problem that I am sure you have dealt with being the big corn packin stud that you are. You see I have enough hair on my back that I could weave my self a couple of Indian sweaters and still have enough for a couple a them rugs too. Problem is I don't know weather to donate it to the foundation for pre-mature balding Shetland ponies or maybe I should just give it to Greenpeace and they could weave it into ropes to tie up their large ships. I am lost and confused as to what to do...Please help me find my way with this horrible dilemma.
Can you help a brother who is down?
Thanks,
Nervous before the big operationFirst off, a "real man" like me does not worry about getting rid of his manly, god given love rug! He embraces it and allows all the trolips to graze their fingers through his man-forest. Sounds to this guy like you should go ahead and purchase that ticket to the Phillipines and pay for your operation. You obviously do not need all your parts bub!
Dear Wolverine:
My DD is getting to that age where she is starting to get interested in boys. As a parent this is a scary thing!
My question for you is, how do I keep guys like you away from my DD?Sounds like you are more interested in your daughter being a romanian gym coach to this guy! Your question is obviously a "farse"! Who WOULDN'T want their daughter dating a "love train" like this stud? Now go wash the dishes bubette, your old man needs a sandwich!
