WPS - CrazyParents U11-UCrazy -PG13- / Supplemental or 3rd tryouts
« on: May 16, 2013, 11:49:47 AM »

I don't think I've ever seen as many supplemental or 3rd tryouts being advertised as this year.

Altruistic (We really want to make sure as many kids can play this level as possible) or materialistic (someone loses a paid job if we don't form our 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th team at this level)?

Honestly..it's the rare case where a team that comes out of tryouts light on players manages to have an enjoyable season.

OPS - CrazyParents U-11-UCrazy -PG13- / Mt Hood tourney
« on: August 15, 2012, 05:35:07 PM »
So...what happened to all the Oregon teams last weekend at the Mt Hood classic? We were slightly disappointed to travel down to Portland and face a whole bunch of teams from the Puget Sound area. Is there some other tourney that all the U15 and up teams play in on that weekend?

WPS - CrazyParents U11-UCrazy -PG13- / Crossfire Select Cup feedback
« on: July 30, 2012, 01:53:07 PM »

For those of you that attended the Crossfire Select Cup this weekend at 60 acres, the (all volunteer) tournament committee is interested in any feedback (both positive and negative) on your experience. Feel free to post here or send me a PM.

Our goal is to improve this tournament every year and gathering feedback right after the event is finished is the best way to do this.

We were blessed with almost perfect soccer weather, a great variety of teams and some incredible athletes. Thanks to everyone who attended and we hope you enjoyed the weekend.

Pay careful attention to the development pathway diagram.

Sarcasm mode on.

Nice to have the state put into writing that there is no place for "premier" outside the RCL. According to the man in charge, if you aren't on an RCL club, you are select and your primary goal should be to get onto an RCL club team. Forget the fact that many of the teams fielded by these RCL clubs would get their noses wiped by many select level teams. If you aren't on an RCL club you will not have access to; College or professional exposure (we don't care how good you are as a player), ODP, Academies or NTC. Very nice...

Nice to see quotes like this "The Regional Club Level of Play is designed for the most committed and skilled players. Club teams are formed from the most skilled players, who must earn a playing position by trying out for the respective team. Training is demanding and is year-round. Consistent with the highest competitive level of play, the time commitment of the player (other sports beyond soccer are expected to be minimal) and the respective monetary cost are normally greater than other levels of play. sent out to every parent in the state which not only fails to inform the public on a wide variety of options for their kids but also sets them up to pay out the nose for the honor of being on an RCL team.

Other gems include

What are the different seasonal schedules at each of the various levels during the season?

    Beginning of September: Season Begins
Regional Club League (RCL): Boys U10-U18, Girls U10-U14
State League (Select level of play): Boys U14-U19
        Recreational: Boys and Girls U6-U19

where district level leagues don't exist according to WYS. There is simply Rec, then the state league (which doesn't exist for girls in the Fall any longer) and the RCL.

and

Washington State Youth Soccer is the governing body for youth soccer players in the state of Washington for ages 5-19 which at best is a misstatement and more honestly an outright fabrication.

Well done WYS. You've just reinforced my feelings about your organization and made future decisions for my team and club very easy.

Didn't see anyone else report this press release.

A couple of points to note; WYS continues to hire more staff and the focus WYS is to professionalize and expand tournaments and other competitive programs. It appears they realize that their state league is dead. Maybe Mr Moran will convince the powers at be that opening up the state cups to all competitors is a good thing and WYS shouldn't be using the cups as a threat in an unrealistic attempt at keeping teams in their leagues. That obviously isn't working.

WYS state cups are complete, US Club Washington Cup is complete. For those that have made the shift or have previous experience with the WYS State Cups at any level (Founders, Challenge, Championship) and are now participating in US Club soccer. Do you miss not playing in the WYS state cups? Is the Washington Cup a comparable experience? Did the move to US Club outweigh the loss of playing in the WYS State cups?

No troll, no spy, just curious....

WPS - CrazyParents U11-UCrazy -PG13- / No play in at U12 and U13
« on: March 17, 2011, 01:43:20 AM »
It appear that the state has abandoned play in for U12 and U13 age levels for championship cup. None of the u12 or U13 brackets have play ins listed as part of the tournament. Nor is there any play in for Div 1 & 2 of the challenge cup. Teams were divvied up by the state into division 1 and 2 based on unspecified criteria. Nice to see the rules (or lack thereof) so flexibly and randomly applied at the whim of the tournament organizers.

15
Just a reminder that many age groups are having Founders Cup semifinals on Saturday and finals on Sunday at Starfire.

Good luck to all the participating teams and thanks to the refs and organizers.

For teams not in RCL...

PM me and I'll update the list...

Crossfire Select is now an autonomous club operating within LWYSA. The Select program is designed for the multi-sport, multi-activity student athlete. They realize that high school presents a number of opportunities and pressures on players time and adjust the program accordingly.

It employs volunteer coaches. Most teams at the GHS ages compete in the Washington State leagues. At GHS ages they take off the entire high school season (practices and games) to let players concentrate on their school teams and avoid burnout. Costs are low compared to premier programs. For complete information about the program please see the team web site at http://crossfireselect.org.

Spots are available at all ages and all teams.

Tryouts for multiple Gu18, Gu17 and Gu16 teams start today. The schedule is;

GU-16 4-May Tue Perrigo, #1  5:30 PM - 7:00 PM
          6-May Thu Perrigo, #1  5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

GU-17 4-May Tue Perrigo, #2  5:30 PM - 7:00 PM
          6-May Thu Perrigo, #2  5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

GU-18 4-May Tue Perrigo, #1  3:30 PM - 5:00 PM
          6-May Thu Perrigo, #1  3:30 PM - 5:00 PM

Unhappy with tryout results? Daughter burnt out? Kids not enjoying soccer any more? Ready to move on from rec? - All valid reasons to check out the Crossfire Select program. It's different.

Anybody know if there exist archives of standings in the state leagues for previous years? I looked all over the WSYSA site but couldn't find anything other than results for the current year.
